Our formal dialogues closed with a storying session that I led, weaving together our shared experiences with rivers. This poem was the result, a song to us from our rivers.

Respectfully, Indigenous folks in Canada don't need a British writer to tell us rivers have rights. Our legal orders centre the agency and personhood of more-than-human entities. It's the violent imposition of British Common Law and French Civil Law on our peoples and our places that is the issue.

Very topical at present here on Dja Dja Wurrung country given recent conflicts in the Wombat forest.
