Don’t forget, for many years #Uber insisted loudly that it would reduce traffic in cities. Instead, Uber drivers cruise without passengers 40% of the time. Uber and Lyft no longer claim they reduce traffic. They now admit they increase congestion.

Today I had to rent a ZipCar and drive on the Beltway to get to a work event in Annandale. It reminded me how lucky I am to live in a place where I can easily be car free and that most of my local travel is by walking, bike, bus or subway.

I said goodbye to my car a year ago. I don’t miss it. I liked having the car, but it was far from a necessity. Here’s how I’ve gotten around without the car in the year since I watched it get taken away by a tow truck.
