⚠️ Please note: It is not an automatic red flag if a finance/shipping mod does not have previous zine experience when backed by experienced team members—although it's understandable as to why some may prefer it.

Although being a contributor or a free zine mod is great previous experience.

For best practices on becoming a first time finance/shipping mod, we would recommend holding a different role in a physical zine first.

(7/?) Why are completed zines important?

The beginning of a zine looks extremely different than the end. There's a lot of nuance with hosting preorders and managing fulfillment, in which relevant experience alone might not be enough.

(6/?) Part Two — A public record of ongoing and completed projects

Most zine participants will have a public list of zines they've been apart of for many different reasons—one of them being a résumé of sorts. This type of transparency can build trust.

(5/?) Leaving a project is sometimes unavoidable but unlike with other roles, if the preorder period has already begun or happened, a coordinated handover is needed.

And if they're in multiple projects, all their projects could be impacted.

(4/?) Being a finance or shipping mod is one of the hardest zine roles to take on.

A "physical" exchange happens in this role. Money is collected or items are collected for fulfillment. This makes replacing the role harder if the moderator has to step away from the project.
