[Panel 2] “SUMMER BREAK !” shout Akko and Frank with their arms raised, probably scaring away a few of the lake’s ducks away in the process of exteriorizing their repressed excitement. “Heh. Finally someone who can match Frank’s energy. I’ve been struggling to find activities to keep him entertained.” “Is that so.” Diana doesn’t react to his jest.

[Panel 3] He turns to the side and grabs the railing. “What a surprise finding Akko here with you.” [Panel 4] “Bigger a surprise than when my father agreed to come here again. But I guess fighting a missile counts as a bonding experience. Right ?” He keeps going, knowing Diana would escape his chatter and head straight for Akko if he stopped talking for a minute. He wants a one on one talk and he knows she won’t ignore him out of courtesy. “Yes, I suppose it is.” Bingo, she (unenthusiastically) took the bait, now she’s stuck with him.

[Panel 5] Andrew hoped he’d get under her skin, her answer is unfortunately quite … boring, and his face betrays how disappointed he is. [Panel 6] He’s not going to stop after one failure anyway, got the whole dinner ahead of him to tease her ! “It’s funny though, it never seemed to me that Akko and you were friends before, but every time I see either of you, the other is around.” Seems like Diana doesn’t want to give him away what he wants, she, quite annoyed, plainly replies “You are correct. We didn’t use to be friends, but our relationship has changed.” [Panel 7] “Oh ?” He smirks, sounds like “relationship” was a bad and quite interpretative word to use here and that Andrew is very interested in the interpretation part.

[Panel 8] Akko jumps out of nowhere in-between them, throwing her arm around Diana’s shoulder. This makes her blush from the unexpected appearance and familiarity, like always when it comes to Akko. “Hey, Diana ? Maybe we can go ride the horses for a while. What’cha say ?” She tries to convince her friend, and it sounds like she and Frank already planned some activities on their own. [Panel 9] But Andrew doesn’t want to let Diana get away without giving him all the crusty details. “Absolutely not. Animals and I don’t get along at all.” “Whaat ? Only creepy people don’t like animals.” Akko stares at him, disgusted and disappointed.

[Panel 2] “Diana ! Good to see you. I’m glad to see you two together –again” He adds to his salutations, amused by the “coincidence”. “Well, this time I was invited. So there was no reason for you to pick me up, ha !” Akko responds, posing with her arms crossed, proud of her little punchline, she likes to be a show-woman in front of Diana, who quite needs the distraction tonight anyway. [Panel 3] Unfortunately for her, Andrew is not quite as good of a public as Diana, and the joke is lost on him. He seems confused but maybe for other reasons.

[Panel 4] Suddenly Paul leaves Daryl’s side to join the youngsters. “Oh, Lady Cavendish. I’m glad you are all here.” He starts, with a smile on top of that. Unusual from him. [Panel 5] He grabs his son by the shoulder, which, even for Andrew, is a new side to him. “I do need to apologise for leaving so abruptly last time. It was rude and inconsiderate, and it was just because I did not understand the importance witches bring to the world. Thanks to Andrew, I know better now.” Sincere apologies from Paul Hanbridge ? He really had a change of heart it seems, Andrew is quite embarrassed by the praise too.

[Panel 6] All the witches in the room stare blankly at him, completely stunned by his sudden excuses. [Panel 7] Diana and Akko look at each other, searching for the other’s answer in her eyes. They’re on the same wavelength, this is a pleasant surprise to them. [Panel 8] Akko decides to voice it herself. “That’s awesome !” She answers, sparkling from excitement.

[Panel 9] “Magic is fantastic. I’m glad more people can appreciate it now.” She earnestly smiles with her whole being. [Panel 10] Diana is absolutely smitten by the sight of this smiling dork, and that doesn’t go unnoticed, Andrew reads her like an open book, it’s going to be fun to watch tonight. [Panel 11] Anna interrupts the group’s discussion. “Excuse me, refreshments will be ready in a short while in the solarium. Please wait a little longer.”

I am curious though, about… your life there.” She removes her hands as she speaks. [Panel 2] “Alright, there.” Akko doesn’t know how to react to her new, complex but pretty hairstyle. [Panel 3] Diana is flustered by the result of her work, but is still not entirely satisfied. “Hm. It’s still missing something…” “You think ?” Akko is confused, she thinks it’s already perfect !

[Panel 4] “Let me try this.” She moves to the side of the hairdresser. [Panel 5] She opens one of the drawers, in search of something specific. [Panel 6] A close up of Diana’s hand gently putting an earring on Akko’s ear. [Panel 7] A few seconds pass and now Akko is wearing small earrings, depicting the crescent moon and a shining star, and Diana is looking at the mirror just next to her shoulder. “Well, what do you think ?” “I… uh… I think I do look like a noblewoman now. It’s almost like magic.” The two of them are blushing from the intimacy that this moment gives them.

[Panel 8] Diana stands again, and tries to act cool, even if “acting cool” might not usually require to intently close your eyes and cross your arms after putting a step of distance between you and a friend. Receiving compliments isn’t her forte “Oh, shush.” She pauses and adds, redder by the second “You can keep those, regardless.” “What ?!” Akko jumps in surprise, she wasn’t expecting an expensive gift like that ! [Panel 9] She turns around without leaving the chair, making sure she’s not joking “Are you sure ?” Diana turns her head away “Yes, I’ve never even worn them. And they look fabulous on you.” [Panel 1o] Akko softly smiles, her eyes tenderly looking at Diana, she rests one arm on the back of the chair, while her other hand is on her cheek. “Tell you what : If we survive the dinner party, I’ll tell you all about Japan.”

[Panel 3] She peeks through the opening. [Panel 4] “Well what do you think ?” She strikes a pose to highlight her new fancy dress. “Do I look like a noblewoman ?” She asks again, trying to get a reaction out of her.

[Panel 5] Diana is stunned by the result, blushing and staring at her. “I– Seems like the magic worked, it fits perfectly.” [Panel 6] “Though I dunno what to do with my hair.” She touches her ponytail, wondering what could please aristocrats when it comes to haircuts. [Panel 7] “Come here.” She offers her friend a chair, still flushed from seeing her in this new dress.

[Panel 8] Akko sits in front of the dressing table, observing her reflection in the mirror, and stays remarkably still for a change, to let Diana touch and see what she could do to give Akko’s hair more oomph. [Panel 9] Her eyes focused on the task, Diana tries her hand at some chitchat. “Did you– did you ever have events like this back in Japan ?” “Like this ? Nah.” [Panel 10] “Japan does formal a bit differently but I did enjoy dressing up every time I could. It was always worth it.” A small smile appears on Diana’s face. [Panel 11] “You don’t talk about Japan all that much.” “Hmmm. I guess not many people have asked about it.” [Panel 12] Akko excitedly tries to turn her head in Diana's direction, ruffling her hair in the process. “Do you wanna know ?”

Day 6&7 part 4/

Merill's dress fits perfectly and for someone who's so good at planning, Diana didn't think this through. Anyway, some sweet bonding time before The Evils arrive.

The 1st time I was like 7 and classmates didn’t want my friend to play at recess so I said “if he doesn’t play, then I won’t either”. He became my best friend for many years after.
The last few years I’ve rejected good job opportunities because the pushed cr*pto and aye-eye.

It turned out wonderful! May I ask how detailed they asked you to do it? Was there a specific tone they were going for or did you have more of a free rein?

Diana who is almost always a stoic statue of emotional regulation (repression) has no deal with Andrew, she says as all her muscles contract.

This is getting on her nerves. [Panel 3] Akko doesn’t say anything but her face betrays how off she thinks Diana is acting. [Panel 4] She decides to force Diana to spit it out, giving her a nudge, she mischievously remarks “What’s your deal with Andrew, anyway ?” Diana was not expecting her to butt in like this. [Panel 5] “I don’t–” Diana angrily reacts. [Panel 6] And then she stops for a while.

[Panel 7] “I don’t have a “deal” with him, I just don’t have any interest in a friendship.” She firmly finishes after taking her time to rearrange her thoughts. [Panel 8] Akko doubts that’s the whole story and her face shows it. [Panel 9] She finally lets out the truth. “Fine. He gets on my nerves with his arrogant attitude and disdain of magic. He’s been like that ever since we were children and despite my many attempts to ignore and avoid him, life keeps throwing him in my way.” She explodes.

[Panel 10] Akko takes it very lightly and jokes about it. “It’s fun seeing you getting worked up at someone other than myself. I thought Diana Cavendish was over those kinds of feelings.” [Panel 11] The dogs are still playing in the grass, they have so much energy for fooling around. “Easy for you to say, you make friends everywhere you go.” [Panel 12] Akko is flattered and smiles widely at her “You think so ?” [Panel 13] “Akko, less than a year ago we could barely stand each other.” She sarcastically adds, Akko exaggerates a silly reaction for her.

[Panel 14] Akko stretches her arms proudly “I guess I AM awesome like that. Don’t worry Diana, I’ll protect you from the Evil Hanbridges on Friday !” She brags. [Panel 15] A close up of her sneakers, even her feet are leaning against the wall. “The problem is, I really don’t have anything to wear.” [Panel 16] Diana scratches her chin. “Here’s an idea…”

Day 6&7 part 3/

New Year and not new day but we continue tormenting Diana with a, uh, touchy subject. Do you think she might get jealous?

Im so so so sorry to be hounding for help over and over but this year is ending on a very rough note for me. Im short on bills, funds for transportation to doctor appt & a procedure next week, and grocery money. I know i keep asking for help. Im sorry, I really am. Things keep happening.
