‘They don’t even pretend to comply’: Mass. agencies, cities, and towns openly flout open record law - The Boston Globe
When requests are fought or ignored by agencies, enforcement of Massachusetts' public records law often falls to those who requested the documents.
In Massachusetts, the state law’s deadlines for fulfilling records requests can be ignored, workers can conspire to overestimate costs, elected officials can spend years fighting requests in court, or not bother releasing records at all. @bostonglobe.com

Agree with these points! It can be fun & kind. I also find it can lead to bigger, better, more fulfilling conversations if it’s good.

My long COVID was so bad at one point I couldnt even remember a five digit authentication pin within a few minutes of seeing it. Its better now, but its taken years, two relapses, and done so much damage.

I’m heartbroken to read that James Van Der Beek has died. I was JUST watching Dawson’s Creek the other day (still obsessed with that show). What a kind, beautiful soul he was. I remember him for his brilliance on-screen & his wisdom off-stage, especially as he battled cancer. 💔💔🙏🏾🫂

A title image reads “So Youve Just Been
Laid Off
a post-corporate message from @katewelchhhh”
“One year ago, I was laid off from my corporate gaming job. For the first time in my 15-year career, I was unemployed without a next secure, salaried job on the horizon. I am either exceptionally lucky or talented, but it doesn't matter which it is - both no longer seem applicable.”
I just saw this instagram post from the incredibly talented and breathtakingly hilarious Kate Welch, who was laid off around a year ago, and I wanted to share it here. It’s an important message, and you deserve to read it:

The Fourth Estate has been seized. The watchdog has been put to sleep. From WaPo to CBS to TikTok, there is a concerted effort by billionaires and the regime they purchased to isolate us from the world and keep us uninformed. A coordinated power grab over who gets to tell the truth.
Scary times.

again we do not really do a good job of explaining how wealthy people like Jeff Bezos are
his net worth is $253.2 billion.
so he could take one million dollars, and just light it on fire
and then do it again tomorrow
and again the day after that
and then do it every day for 693 years and 8 months

What’s there left to say? Journalism is already on fire, and now journalists of color are getting arrested for doing their jobs.
While alt-right media continues to roll in dough, those of us who want to actually speak truth to power can’t find jobs, AND have to worry about safety.

…the magistrate judge's refusal to approve the criminal complaint against Lemon reportedly left Bondi
"furious," with the Justice Department privately vowing to find other ways to target the journalist.”
So a targeted takedown. Surprising no one.

That any journalist is targeted for their work — in the U.S., Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Palestine, Niger, anywhere — is *revolting* & not something to take lightly.
I obviously stand in solidarity with Georgia Fort, Don Lemon, & other journalists being targeted for their work. I hope you do, too.

Because journalists should not be arrested or targeted for doing their jobs, regardless of what they cover or who they work for, what their political affiliation is, how polished their reporting is, or where they’re reporting. This is absurd.

Watching Georgia Fort on CNN moments ago reminds me why I started following her work five years ago. She calls spades, spades. She lets purpose drive the work. She keeps it real. And keeps it moving.
All of us in the field should be showing solidarity with her & Don Lemon.

Just to be clear: Both independent journalists arrested by the authoritarian Trump regime for doing their jobs in Minnesota — Don Lemon and Georgia Fort — are Black.

This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.

Outside of planned branch shutdowns, this is by far the longest commute I’ve had on the T: 50 minutes added to my commute from Randolph 💔💔 Appreciate the MBTA crew for doing what they can but it’s still frustrating.

The Cambridge rental market is cooling — for now - Cambridge Day
A report found prices for 1- and 2-br apartments increased only modestly in 2025. It's still one of the state's most expensive markets.
Some SLIGHT relief for those looking for apartments in Cambridge this winter but it may not last! My latest for @cambridgeday.com (& my first story in a little while!).
If you’re looking for apartments in Cambridge/know someone who is, shoot me a DM — I want to speak with you!

It’s 3:30 AM & I just finished Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart… cannot believe it took me this long but oh my god, I’m gonna need a few days to process this ending… wow. Immediately one of my new favorite books, not just because this is a story of my tribe but because it’s a phenomenal read.
