Agree with these points! It can be fun & kind. I also find it can lead to bigger, better, more fulfilling conversations if it’s good.

I’m heartbroken to read that James Van Der Beek has died. I was JUST watching Dawson’s Creek the other day (still obsessed with that show). What a kind, beautiful soul he was. I remember him for his brilliance on-screen & his wisdom off-stage, especially as he battled cancer. 💔💔🙏🏾🫂

That any journalist is targeted for their work — in the U.S., Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Palestine, Niger, anywhere — is *revolting* & not something to take lightly.

I obviously stand in solidarity with Georgia Fort, Don Lemon, & other journalists being targeted for their work. I hope you do, too.

Because journalists should not be arrested or targeted for doing their jobs, regardless of what they cover or who they work for, what their political affiliation is, how polished their reporting is, or where they’re reporting. This is absurd.

Watching Georgia Fort on CNN moments ago reminds me why I started following her work five years ago. She calls spades, spades. She lets purpose drive the work. She keeps it real. And keeps it moving.

All of us in the field should be showing solidarity with her & Don Lemon.

Just to be clear: Both independent journalists arrested by the authoritarian Trump regime for doing their jobs in Minnesota — Don Lemon and Georgia Fort — are Black.

This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.

It’s 3:30 AM & I just finished Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart… cannot believe it took me this long but oh my god, I’m gonna need a few days to process this ending… wow. Immediately one of my new favorite books, not just because this is a story of my tribe but because it’s a phenomenal read.
