I am once again asking science education researchers to not read me their slides

This is a venn diagram showing how 69 Trump actions map onto domains covering: undermining democratic institutions; suppressing dissent and media; dismantling social protections; attacking science and education; destabilising the global order. A table version is available here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LZN7QnbSyFfUZJG8Sn1MWpK0VnfBtb0OSyZ1jxP3xBk/edit?usp=sharing

๐Ÿงต"So this is how liberty dies..."

Trumpโ€™s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up.

Iโ€™ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

You know, you start off expecting to have a good day and then you accidentally set off bear spray in your car and your outlook on the day rapidly shifts.

And no, genuinely top-tier copy editing can't be done by "AI," because, like with translation, there are subtle bits an LLM isn't going to pick up on, because it's not actually intelligent. There's more to copy editing than just grammar. A good copy edit can make a story better. Brains are required.

Tweet from Scott Jennings, saying "um, yes, that's really a problem," with a quoted image saying "The problem with left-leaning media is they're intrinsically more strict with their propaganda to only using verifiable sources so it's really hard to poke holes in their ideology and arguments in comparison to a lot of low quality right-wing content. That makes attacking their points with fact checkers not very effective unless the fact checkers use misinformation tactics as well. In essence, people on the right have to work harder and more creatively to push their agendas as statistics and studies frustratingly aren't usually on our side."

This is why they're attacking science and education: if you can only win with disinformation, data become a threat.

If you're an NSF PI like me, you might be wondering: Will my grant be suspended or terminated next week?

A few key things to know: First off, remember that NSF is **congressionally mandated** to evaluate broader impacts. And laws like CHIPS and Science supersede EOs.

But also... ๐Ÿงต thread

How democracies prevail: democratic resilience as a two-stage process This article introduces a novel conceptualization of democratic resilience - a two-stage process where democracies avoid democratic declines altogether or avert democratic breakdown given that such au...

All right babes I have 20 minutes so let's do some "I help you read the research on how to keep a democracy."

First of all: let's talk about factors positively and negatively associated with democratic resilience.
