Unless there's a surprise last minute candidate, Ivan Bates will not have an opponent in the Democratic primary election for Baltimore State's Attorney. That's the first time the Democratic candidate has been unopposed since 1998 when no one ran against Patricia Jessamy

Adding to records spat, Montgomery County IG denied request
Megan Limarzi, the inspector general for Montgomery County, said her office was denied a record by the county attorneyβs office under the Maryland Public Information Act.
As Baltimore officials are embroiled in a legal fight over inspector general access to municipal records for investigations, Montgomery County's inspector general says a routine request for a record was denied. She told me this has never happened to her before.

House Minority Leader Jeffries meets with Ferguson as redistricting pressure builds
As he walked into the State House, Jeffries said he would βin all likelihoodβ discuss redistricting with Gov. Wes Moore.
They met. They talked. They didn't change their minds.
Here's what we know happened during the redistricting summit between Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Maryland Senate Pres. Bill Ferguson today in Annapolis.

Footage released today shows an officer not approaching the crashed vehicle out of safety concerns, and while waiting for backup the car caught fire and officers were unable to extinguish it. It's unclear if the girl died on impact, or in the fire

A child died after crashing while fleeing a traffic stop in Howard County last month; the Attorney General's Office says it will not identify her, citing a juvenile secrecy law no one else applies this way. Im hoping someone out there knows who she was. Please reach out if you have info

Wonderful read. Beyond its importance to the cause of civil rights, the Afro was essential for a young, white police reporter trying to comprehend the whole of Baltimore. I was a devoted reader right down to the society notes. Similarly, Ron Cassie is our best current voice on all things Baltimore.

Once a troubled sheriff, he'll now lead the Maryland State Police
Acting Maryland State Police Superintendent Michael A. Jackson has allies on both sides of the aisle after a decade in Annapolis, but some still question his tenure leading the Prince Georgeβs County ...
New story with @justinfenton.bsky.social: He's set to lead the Maryland State Police. But the last time he ran a law enforcement agency, his deputies busted into a small-town mayor's home and killed two dogs in a botched raid, part of a string of similar incidents. www.thebanner.com/politics-pow...

Weβre not shifting any resources from the Baltimore region and like the Montgomery coverage it will largely live separately on our site. Itβs an effort to fill a gap where readers in Marylandβs second-largest jurisdiction arenβt being served

Iced sidewalks, no buses: How Maryland School for the Blind finally reopened
Reopening was complex for the Maryland School for the Blind in Northeast Baltimore, where over 200 students with visual disabilities, some of whom use wheelchairs or canes to get around, go to school.
Thought it was hard for your school to reopen after the storm? The state's only school serving blind students had to de-ice thousands of feet of sidewalk while stuck beholden to surrounding districts' closure decisions. Plus, they're not allowed to go virtual. www.thebanner.com/education/k-...
