Why involuntary medical admission and treatment won’t solve homelessness
The arguments made by advocates for involuntary medical admissions and treatment aren’t supported by science.
Shout out to my brillant colleague Emmanuelle Bernheim whose clear and compelling analysis takes apart a persistent - and incorrect - myth that mental illness is the cause of homelessness theconversation.com/why-involunt...

My commitment to feminism never wavered, but 35 years later, I wish there were more progress. I worry about the backsliding - on reproductive rights, on overt misogyny & violent speech in social media, the attacks on female-identifying politicians, and the relentless sexualization of girls & teens.

We were not fools - we could see discrimination & unequal treatment everywhere under the veneer of 1980s equality. Reproductive rights were still fragile. But the carnage of Dec 6th shone a light on the destructive power of misogyny and underscored the need for broad societal change in attitudes.

Astounding! Heenan Blaikie had NO ARCHIVES.
A firm that was good at law, but not business in Adam’s view.
Former partners of Heenan Blaikie kept various amounts of firm material.
Adam found fascinating correspondence in Pierre Trudeau’s personal papers.

Now we hear the story of the firm’s rise to prominence after former PM Pierre Trudeau joined the firm, described at the time as a local Montreal firm. Other prominent figures joined like Jean Chrétien.

Harsh words for senior management in response to harassment at the firm esp by a prominent partner, who was « bigger than the firm »
Adam describes some of the problems at the firm.

Tonda McCharles asks Adam: « were people ready to dish? »
Apparently yes - Adam interviewed 180 former lawyers from Heenan Blaikie. He had a response rate of over 85% when he approached people to talk about their experiences…
