I agree. I think the media problem has to do with its payment model. That drives the sensationalist, “OMG! What now!” consumption pattern. Independent, subscriber-based, (and dare I say fact-based) journalism sidesteps that pitfall.

Focusing primarily on Trump is like keeping the stove burner on as the pot boils over. Minimizing focus on Trump is a solid strategy. The Trump-centric mythos is especially nurtured by main media—CNN, etc. Count how many times “Trump” appears in headlines on front pages.

I think it’s a “crabs in the slowly increasing water temperature” situation. But some of us crabs understand “stoves” and “burners” and “cook pots” better than the rest. So not much interest in wider society. Plus the saga of a democracy’s death is not a news-cycle narrative. Not profitable.

I’ve seen other reporting that points in a similar direction: Techno-Corporate-Fiefdoms. Neil Stephenson‘s book “Fall“, posits “Ameristan”, a sort of broken up, disassociated version of the U.S. It was the first well-described version of that possible future I had encountered. Now it is closer.

My home lands! I’ve spent the last two years in Germany, but have lived out that way across several decades—Grayland, Westport, Montesano. I LOVE seeing that moment you shared. Such a beautiful part of the U.S.!

It is infuriating on its face and 10 times more so because they always defame and slander anyone and anything they chose. They hold nothing sacred, and yet claim any topic related to their culpability to be sacred and off limits. It’s the anti-matter universe counterpart to integrity—and SO wrong. 😡
