The kayak in the process of outfitting for autonomous surveys.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to study submarine faults "just offshore". The postdoc will participate in all steps of the research from the development of an autonomous kayak w/ sonar to the analysis of bathymetric data for active tectonics. π 22 June!

Dorks, itβs time to throw sand in the gears.
They want us to stop teaching, we will teach in the streets.
They want us to stop our research, we will use archival data.
They want to send us back to the dark ages, we will be a light.
We will not lay down and take this.
Interested in waterfalls? My former PhD student, Sophie Rothman, (with support from NSF) made a fun outreach video about how waterfalls erode, check it out and please share widely:

π From tracking extreme weather to protecting fisheries and coastlines, #NOAAβs work saves lives and supports economies.
AGU opposes the dismantling of NOAA and calls on Congress to defend this critical agency.
The future of climate science, public safety, and industry depends on it.
AGU has joined a lawsuit challenging the firing of probationary employees at federal agencies.
These actions weaken science, harm public health & the environment, and threaten national security. 𧡠#StandWithScience
I designed some 3D printed components to make a very inexpensive version of the @earthscope.org Earthquake Machine that hold a phone. It also allows for multiple variables such as elasticity (size of bands), surface roughness (grits of sandpaper) and mass (hollow brick to add weights).

This is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this.
The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".
Today, the US stood with Russia and North Korea β and against our allies β in voting against a UN resolution to condemn Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Let that sink in.
This is a betrayal of the Ukrainian people, our allies, our interests and those who aspire for freedom.
