Which happens every year,
Without fatigue.

Across 13 beautiful grounds,
And you enjoying each with a soda of limes,
And here the festival's music in the background

Final over, enough runs to put doubt in the mind,
But not quite enough for a cakewalk
The team that wins, will have its legacy defined
While for the other, from the ground to the dressing room,
It will be a long walk.

Still, the chase carries on,
Each team unwilling to give up,
Giving no time for the defenders to yawn,
The chasers keep chipping away,
With their long batting lineup

A target is set, a goal in sight,
The batters come out ready,
They are here for a fight,
But the first wicket falls already

The sound of leather on willow,
Each time a ball is bowled,
Soothing like the river’s flow
Feels as precious as gold

One ball driven through covers,
Other beaten due to swing,
The thought of uncertainty hovers
The first wicket,
Which bowler will bring?

The shiny white new ball
With the beautiful stitched seam
Willing to answer the bowler’s call
Ready to set the match’s theme

“Tails!” calls the skipper,
In such a faint shout,
That only the presenter can hear
Heads! The home team wins the bout.

As Ravi Shastri, in his booming voice,
Announces the toss,
The visiting captain is given a choice,
Who hopes for not facing a loss

As the sun sets beyond the ground,
And the lights shine brightly all around,
At the toss of the coin,
Both captains join

A little poem i cooked up for the IPL!
(I'm not a poet and this is the first time I am writing something lol)

As the summer of the subcontinent arrives
And the ripe mangoes are cut with knives
The Grand Festival of Cricket,
The IPL, arrives
