“thanks for doing this, hyung,” jgk said as they followed jmi into the den. already, they could hear the crinkling of candy wrappers opening.

“every little kid deserves to trick or treat,” hsk said, shrugging his shoulders like it wasn’t a huge deal. “even big little kids.”

his surprised face then exuberant scream of uncontainable happiness made ending the halloween night early so worth it.

as minnie ran away to sort through his spoils, jgk patted hsk on the back and turned off the porch light, signaling that this house was out of candy.

just like all the other kids had that night, this trick or treater held open his candy bag for jgk. but only this one could say, “trick treat, appa!”

and because jmi was jgk’s most special trick or treater, he poured the entire bowl of candy into minnie’s designer candy bag.

“appa!” jmi shouted, hurrying over to him. “appa, missed you! but look, look, minnie is you!”

“minnie,” jgk laughed happily, face so bright and smile wide. “i see! you look just like appa, babyboy.”

jmi excited-wiggled at that, and it jostled his candy bag. that reminded him.

that perked him right up, and he thanked nj happily before he n hsk went off to get minnie’s last treat.

jgk was waiting inside the front door when they entered the foyer, that huge bowl of trick or treater candy in his hands. he nearly dropped it in surprise when he saw jmi.

hsk noted the juice-sticky cutting board and fruit peelings n stems scattered about the table, knowing that nj armed with a kitchen knife was what dinged up his hands.

jmi was less than enthused about getting a healthy “treat,” but nj promised he dusted them with sugar.

jmi endured it because thg had snatched a whole box of cookies from the cabinet for jmi’s treat. he eyed it the whole time, and when thg put it in his candy bag, he was ready to go find nj.

he was waiting for them in the kitchen, a bento box in his hands — his bandaged hands.

sjn gave little koo a handful of sweets, and his time was up; minnie was ready to move on.

they found thg next, sat in the library. he fawned over jmi for five whole minutes, snapping pictures and selfies and repeatedly calling him “jgk” “by accident.”

and that’s how the night went.

they found sjn in his room, a face mask on and hair wrapped in a silk towel. quite seriously, jmi complimented his costume.

sjn laughed his windshield wiper, spray bottle laugh, and it was such a lighthearted moment hsk wished he could video it.

but hsk doesn’t budge.

“manners, minnie,” he reminds.

jmi stops pulling and looks at ygi, barely a glance, before muttering, “thankyouhyungloveyoubye. trick nini now!”

then he was tugging hsk’s hand again, and hsk was so endeared he couldn’t help but go.

but it doesn’t matter that he’s given jmi breath mints instead of real candy, because he is so happy his whole thrums with it.

quickly, he hangs both handles over his elbow and grabs hsk’s hand.

“next! nini’s room right there! trick him next!” he says while pulling hsk away.

hsk unconsciously makes a judgmental sound in the back of his throat, but it’s drowned out by jmi’s squealing and giggling, his excited feet kicking once again.

ygi heard it though, so he looks at hsk and mumbles, “i saw your text late. didn’t have time to raid the candy stash.”

he clumsily hurries to open it with both hands, holding it out to ygi and smiling.

“tricked you. treat time now!”

ygi grins with his gums at how adorable minnie is, and he moves his hand out from behind his back.

into jmi’s makeshift candy bag, he drops a handful of mints.

jmi giggles even more and stuffs his head back under the beanie, pulling it low on his forehead.

in doing so, he knocks himself in the face with the monstrously large, ridiculously expensive LV tote bag of hsk’s he’s carrying. that seems to remind him of something.

and whipping off the black beanie he was wearing.

“boo!” he shouts, smiling so wide his eyes were squinted. “it’s minnie dress up as appa for ha’ween! tricked you!”

ygi gasps deeply.

“minnie! what a good costume, baby. you look just like appa, so much i didn’t recognize you.”

“jgk? why are you trick or treating? that’s for little boys to do,” ygi says, confused. he leans against the doorframe, one hand behind his back, and tries to ignore hsk’s stifled laughter.

jgk giggles and stomps his feet excitedly before reaching with an A R M Y tattooed hand

“trick-treat!”

a door with a sign reading “genius lab (home ver.)” opens, and ygi gasps at the sight of jgk at his door.

sure his tattoos are smudged and mainly consist of flowers, and his lip ring looks like tin foil, and he’s kinda small, but it’s jgk alright.

“ever’body but minnie get to trick-treat. an’ appa gives my candy to them. even snoopy gets to but not minnie,” he says sadly.

just before tears can well up in his eyes, hsk hops off the couch. jmi watches, curious at his big smile.

“hyung can’t have that! c’mon, come with me.”

he visibly wilts. if he had puppy ears, they’d be laid flat on his head. it’s such a heartbreaking sight that hsk instantly begins thinking of ways to remedy this travesty.

jmi morosely fiddles with his witch cat stuffy after confessing, not seeing hsk quickly type on his phone.

“i’d love to watch snoopy with you, minnie, but first tell hyung why my little honeybee was pouting on halloween. remember the fun we all had earlier?”

jmi giggles because of course he does! how can he forget? but..

“hyung’s hon’bee not get to trick-treat,” jmi mumbles.

jmi forgets to pout at the sound of hobi hyungie’s voice. he twists around from where he had bogged down into blankies and couch cushion to look at hobi, fun sweet silly hobi.

“hi hyung!” jmi chirps, vibrating with excitement as hsk sits beside him on the couch. “watch snoopy?”

a little “hmph!” sound for good measure.

appa is sitting outside right now, giving away all jmi’s family’s candy to other kids who get to do what jmi doesn’t. mean kids. mean appa. mean hyungies for letting appa be mean. mean snoopy and mean charlie—

“what’s that face for?”

that just doesn’t make sense. he even saw a minute ago on the tv that charlie brown took snoopy trick or treating. puppy snoopy! and jmi doesn’t get to!

it’s not fair, and even though jmi is a good good boy, he can’t help it: he pouts. really pouts, lips pursed, arms crossed.
