I really like Mayo, but it sure could make the 2026 team better. His 50th percentile outcome as a 1b for 2026 is easier to find elsewhere than the 50th percentile of a Ryan or a similar SP. Buuut, if they are willing to spend the $, they can address the SP in free agency and keep Mayo...

Probably Framber because I think Mike just needs to go get the best pitcher available, not the best value available. A risky commitment for sure, but it's time to take that type of risk rather than trying to be the most clever FO in the league

All fair, I don't really disagree. If he'd be willing to take a 3 year deal to cash in, and then hit FA at 31, that's a slam dunk. If he's looking for longer, I start to get skeptical the O's will do it.

the longer he keeps this up the less I think he'd be willing to take a deal the O's would do. He's already banked $9.6m and has arb3 next year, so I think there's a decent chance he bets on himself and shoots for a bigger cash in next off-season

My take might not be hot enough but...I agree the staff deserves plenty of credit for things not going completely off the rails, and Mansolino especially for stepping into a tough spot. And I'd also prefer a different manager/staff next season.

Injuries and the lack of adding enough pitching get a lot of the blame for the O's season. But what Tony's talking about will have a huge impact on the next 3-5 years: was this a down year for a bunch of core guys, or is the core just not as good as they were projected to be?

Yeah, maybe I'm misreading what his market will be, but I'd guess there will be cheaper options for similar production. And then Mike can go overspend on a guy who slots higher in the rotation instead of overpaying for a backend guy.

with the assumption that any FA pitcher is going to take an offer that's a bit "irrational", no, I'm not interested in paying the FA rate for a guy with his peripherals. If the price were surprisingly low, I guess he's worth a look as long as he's not the only SP they sign.

It's easy to dunk on this but the reality is that a healthy and productive O'Neill would be a huge boost for the 2026 O's, especially because he's a righty bat. Getting him back to potentially close the season with some positive momentum sounds great to me.

I'm kind of on the fence on this specific deal, but this is the exact type of trade they need to make: A trade that may be a negative-value over the next 5+ years, but should bring positive value for 2026 and 2027.

Yeah, it's a tough spot because they really need a reliable righty bat who can spend time at 1b/dh. And I'm not sure they can rely on either Mounty or Mayo for that. But with such a long list of pitching needs this offseason, I think there's a decent chance they don't address this externally
