in trying to understand what makes ICE and CBP so dangerous right now, it is tempting to imagine some new lack of training or experience or professionalismβ€”and not grapple with the truth that a white nationalist movement has put more power and force behind their existing mission

I love blazing star ever since I learned about it this year. This one is growing in an abandoned construction site by my work in Eastern WA

Haha! I wondered about that. Good to know! It will fit right in with my opium poopies which reseed like crazy, too.

Nicotiana β€˜Indian peace pipe’ flowering in my #SpokaneGarden. Started from seed, now 3’ tall. It smells so wonderful at night, but it doesn’t quite perfume the air like I had hoped.

No irises in my yard - sorry! I have blue eye grass which is in the same family but looks nothing like iris.

It’s Friday’s Flora as featured on the subreddit SpokaneGardeners! To say I have an infatuation with Sambucus is an understatement. I am not even embarrassed that I have five different cultivars in my yard. #spokanegarden

Wow! Those are huge! I’m growing Indian peace pipe. It’s about the right size for my yard.

Nice! I’m growing tobacco too. But it’s the ornamental flowering kind instead of the stimulant smoking kind.

Roasting sounds fun! When I get a bunch of spicy ones I usually pickle them. That also takes out the spice. Pickled radishes are pretty smelly but so delicious.

Harvested my first radish today! It is beautiful and had a lovely texture. But it was spicy. How to prevent spicy radish? #spokanegarden #vegetablegarden

Awesome! Yes I think the intent is to build more community support through an active membership and board.

The drip irrigation will be so informative! That is not put on by the club, but is a partnership between Spokanescape and the library.

Next year I will plant directly into a more nutritious medium. Seed starting mix doesn’t have much nutrients in it.

That’s about when I started mine. I grow them on a heat pad until they germinate then I put them under grow lights. Mine are way smaller than yours. I start them in sterile seed starter mix in my basement. What is your growing medium?

Do you follow SpokaneGardeners on Reddit? I moderate that group. You might be interested. I just posted info there about an edible native plant presentation.

Ha! Good question. So there was one called TIEG and they disbanded last year. My friend at the city library is trying to foster creation of a new garden club called Garden 4 You. I am not sure how that is going. I went to the first meeting which was really nice, but not really club-like.

When do you start your peppers. They look good.

I think so. They advertised a bunch of natives last year which is what I am currently into. I went on Sunday and they were all out of the natives. But they still had a ton of perennials and they have an indoor plant section. And they give away free veg seeds.

Happy Friday! Serviceberries become enveloped in machΓ©-like flowers making a show-stopper in April. Their early, sweet blooms are excellent for pollinators. Follow r/spokanegardeners on Reddit #spokanegarden

Good! Not very big but they are growing. My tomatoes are getting second set of true leaves. They’re typically 6” tall by mid May. Peppers have first set of true leaves and are usually 3” tall by mid May.

I potted my tomatoes and peppers up and put them in my greenhouse a week ago. In years past, I usually put them in greenhouse early April. I put my melons out there during the day and bring in at night because I don’t know how they will handle cold.
