I prefer pansies. My local bunnings doesn't seem to sell them, but that's ok because we have some wind/bird sown gorgeous dark purples ones the pop up at random

Also gonna throw out there that people who vote that way also tend to act that way too, and if people have options, they'll vote with their feet.

omfg I was looking up something on a university website, and every time I went to a new page (I was trying to compare programme requirements and how the different postgrad options interlocked and how the core papers change, so had about 600 tabs open) or clicked on something "BING BING HELLO"

100%

You know what would also save 10 mins on an airport trip? Regular and dependable mass transit like light rail, MRT, etc.

Most of us could fit happily on a flat floor tram (etc) to the front door of the airport, saving a lot of traffic on the road for those who do need to drive

Today, it's exactly one hundred years since the opening ceremony of the New Zealand & South Seas International Exhibition in Dunedin.

To celebrate, I'm sharing some images from an original copy of the ceremony's official souvenir programme.

I think you're cool, but not for those bourgeois mainstream ideals, you're cool for much nerdier and perhaps bohemian reasons

St Matthew in the City taken from a different place on the street for a change. The white Ōamaru stone tower and the east end are visible poking above the trees. In the foreground, the reason this view is seldom taken, tragic lights.

Another lovely morning of ringing. We had 12 of us, including a welcome visitor from Melbourne. We rang rounds, Plain Bob Doubles & Triples, and Grandsire Doubles.

Basketball: NZ Breakers won't wear ANBL 'Pride' insignia The Auckland-based team have opted out of wearing rainbow insignia during the competition's 'Pride Round'.

www.rnz.co.nz/news/sport/5...

Oh yeah, fuck off. It costs you nothing to wear it. "I don't want to wear it for religious reasons" and "I won't wear it to not single out my friend".

either/or tbh

Most people love the taste of butter, but these days margarine is standard fair. Certainly more easily spread, more cost effective.

Honestly, IMHO I'd be more excited by fairy bread that I wouldn't notice any of the ingredient specifics

OOh I love me a good ornament.

Was at a book launch on Tuesday and every section had a different ornament, and they were all Aotearoa flora and fauna at like 12 pt and it was GLORIOUS

At what point do we publicly accept that NZ is deeply corrupt and the only reason why we don’t have a culture of direct payoffs and bribery (that we cite as the evidence for us not being corrupt) is because it’s not needed? The boys club gets what it wants through people playing their social roles.

If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem?

Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in?

And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?

I mean, you could take out street parking and you'd be pretty sweet. It feels like carving up the whole area just so someone can park on the street. Parking is already fairly tight in the area, but hopefully good quality transit options will resolve that!

a woman is standing in front of a door with the words get out written on the bottom Alt: a woman is standing in front of a door with the words get out written on the bottom. Scene appears to be from the sitcom "Mom" and the character is opening the door, gesticulating through it, and appears to be saying the words "get out!"

I'm trying to figure out whether becoming a full professor does something to the chemistry of your brain and you start to support this stupid bullshit, or the people who make full professor are good at hiding that they think like this until they're promoted.

Either way, there's the door bitch!

Just had to do some unconnecting on LinkedIn. A German-NZ distinguished professor who I think is mates with Dawkins posted some dumb shit ["will the decolonisers have 'won' when we have university students who don't know the basics of maths?!"] and got "applause" from some colleagues.
