Hey, if the Mayor of Tauranga can live on the wrong side of the Kaimais (and occasionally is trapped on t'other side during emergencies), then surely the NZ PM doesn't have to live in NZ?
Besides, if they get the job, they can "temporarily reside" in government housing anyway

I dunno what I'll do after this lot of study. Since I'm doing printmaking, maybe some hand printed cards. This particular one has A LOT of stakeholders, so I'll be making a pile of things to thank people & hopefully continue those relationships into the future π

When I finished my MA I brought each supervisor (2 supervisors and one who filled in if someone was on leave) a 2L ice cream container of handmade brownies. Only the one on leave said thanks (but told me she hadn't done much). One actively said "oh. Why? Huh." Such a weird response!

What if the emails you're sending are all variations of "Hi, Just following up. You said that you'd have the thing to me no later than Friday. That was 3 weeks ago. Any chance of an update? We're all kinda waiting on you at this point. Thanks" ? I don't want to be emailing in the first place!

A professor and her students are editing Wikipedia pages to ensure they preserve and represent the lives and stories of LGBTQ+ people
If itβs not on Wikipedia, does the internet think it exists? π§
This professor and her students are ensuring LGBTQ+ history isnβt lost by improving coverage on Wikipedia. Over 900 million views later, they are making the internet a more inclusive place. π³οΈββ§οΈπ³οΈβπ

A lot of studies are incomplete because of disease outbreaks, lack of funding, or students running out of time, but which in aggregate could add data, which aren't published now because of small sample sizes or inconclusive results which could make more sense in conjunction w/ other studies

I also want to see more journals accepting examples of failed, incomplete, or inconclusive research. This would be great to help guide other researchers, give closure to master's student work, and help w/ the development of methodology when things don't go to plan.

Throwback to when in hospital for 3 weeks w/ an unknown infection. Had to have a colonoscopy & the specialist held up a DSLR & joked it was the camera we'd be using. Me, on a "mild sedative", painkillers, & muscle relaxants:

Hell yeah for midwives. When I was born, neither of mum's midwives were available, so she got the on-duty hospital one + a senior nurse. When we ran into complications, and the junior doctor "in charge" panicked, the midwife stuck him in the corner and told him not to get in the way.

And of course, if Marton suddenly becomes commuters paradise or the east coast Tauranga, then some elected rep can earn a feather campaigning for a revitalised modern (still crap) building!

I mean this with no offence, but the current building appears to be a nothing station. To get things going again, minimum rebuild could be a glorified bus shelter at least for now. My (non-retired) whΔnau living in Marton commute to Whanganui and Palmy, so a regular rail service is a no-brainer.

My husband now works exclusively from home and always has chicken rice for lunch. He's gotten into the habit of giving a little bit to our cat, who now expects this with every meal. She will yell, bite, and carry on thinking she's missing out. And then will sit there mouth open waiting to be fed.

Some of my favourite catchphrases (by bike or tram)
* Oh, didn't realise it was legal if it was only for a minute
* What's the point in us having dedicated taxi spaces right there if you aren't going to use them?
* That really really sounds like a not my problem
* Sign's right there, just read it

Consider this your annual reminder that fabric scissors/shears are different from any other cutting medium. Using them for anything other than fabric is to forfeit your life. You may die at the hand of those scissors you so crudely blunted.

One of the early biologists at UOA was a Macintosh I think, and there was a WHOLE THING about his career which made it to the official histories, so for a second I wondered if it would be named after him, but that would be over in the 100 block, not in 201!

I generally don't like to even consider wishing people dead, but right now there are people where I would honestly be relieved if they were somehow incapacitated.

BUT APPARENTLY CLIMATE CHANGE ISN'T A THING
Also, we're apparently also running things so finely managed that 2 locomotives and half a dozen carriages down, and we can no longer offer BAU? Most heritage lines could manage that! Fucking neoliberal fucking bullshit.

In Aotearoa. In 2026.
This is so immoral and disgusting that opposition parties should be 20 points ahead in the polls by now.
