I built an old #startrek plastic model and added a customized decal and had the best time.

Mark Snow, β€˜X-Files,’ β€˜Ghost Whisperer,’ β€˜Blue Bloods’ Composer, Dies at 78 Mark Snow, the veteran television composer who turned "The X-Files" theme into an unlikely chart hit in the 1990s has died. He was 78.

I never met him but was a fan. I read an interview once where he jokingly said he composed these lyrics to the theme from β€œThe X-Files”: β€œThe X-Files is a show… with music by Mark Snow…” RIP variety.com/2025/artisan...

I felt like Insurrection opened a can of worms with the romance with Anij and didn’t know how integrate it with the story I was telling with Picard and Beverly but looking back I probably should’ve tried harder to integrate it.

You got a lot but missed a few - all the people Picard is running against in the marathon are named after Enterprise writers. - later Picard, Walker Keel and Jack Crusher are in a bar on Sigma Iotia II which is from β€œA Piece of the Action”, and the natives are dressed like they’re in starfleet.

I think one of the difficulties of Star Trek as a viewer is that in the show we see no lasting effects from this torture, and victims of torture live with it their whole lives, and I tried to correct that a little.

Yeah this was a no brainer. The Joni Mitchell song I put in because I felt TNG always went a little too old with its music references. #TrekBookClub

I actually was required by Paramount to put a Discovery reference in here, this was written before Discovery came out, so I actually didn’t understand the reference.

I hated how the Ferenghi were portrayed in first season TNG. I think DS9 saved them.

09.03.2025 20:34 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah as an Enterprise writer I wanted to have some character from the show in the book, but I agree that it’s a little bit of a stretch. I also did a version of this story in one of my β€œOrville” comics.

09.03.2025 20:30 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah I enjoyed that too that the brat grows up, which is also a theme of a lot of characters in trek, that they used to be irresponsible or self centered but they change and grow.

09.03.2025 20:28 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, I felt trapped by what was said in Measure of a Man, which establishes her attitude about the court martial. But glad you liked it.

09.03.2025 20:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah I thought the way he talked about it in β€œThe Battle” he seemed modest about it.

09.03.2025 20:25 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think the other piece of this that was important to me as a writer was that bit of backstory that was introduced in β€œAttached” where we find out Picard was in love with Beverly, so that his responsibility for Jack’s death is all the more difficult.

09.03.2025 20:22 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

I wanted to make Jack a lot like Wesley, very smart and open. I felt that his character really hadn’t been explored that way.

09.03.2025 20:19 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In the ST-TNG writers directors guide it said Picard had been on the stargazer for 20 years, and that went against the idea of a successful officer moving up the ranks, so this chief of staff interlude was a way to say he’s moving up but decides he prefers his old ship and being a captain.
