Thanks will add it to the list for the next visit. It’s not a species I’m very familiar with

Didn’t see that - will have to keep an eye out for it next time. Where abouts is it?

An experienced botanist once told me: one has to "experience" a plant: touch it, smell it, look at it closely. Stachys alpina is a good species to illustrate this, it is identifiable by touch, smell and looks 🀩

Beech Fern (Phegopteris connectilis), a beautiful little fern of limestone woodland and mountain scree. It is named after the pinnae, which are connected at the base along the rachis. Here tucked into a rock crevice on Cwm Idwal, Snowdonia.

Country diary: Common milkwort looks light enough to take flight | Elizabeth-Jane Burnett Bideford, Devon: Once picked for garlands, today this quiet treasure is best left where it is as it becomes scarcer

Lovely write up of Common Milkwort by @theguardian1.bsky.social! This grassland species has sadly declined across Britain (plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9...). In the uplands look out for the less showy Heath Milkwort as well, which prefers more acidic habitats
