An experienced botanist once told me: one has to "experience" a plant: touch it, smell it, look at it closely. Stachys alpina is a good species to illustrate this, it is identifiable by touch, smell and looks π€©

Beech Fern (Phegopteris connectilis), a beautiful little fern of limestone woodland and mountain scree. It is named after the pinnae, which are connected at the base along the rachis. Here tucked into a rock crevice on Cwm Idwal, Snowdonia.

Lovely write up of Common Milkwort by @theguardian1.bsky.social! This grassland species has sadly declined across Britain (plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9...). In the uplands look out for the less showy Heath Milkwort as well, which prefers more acidic habitats
