DoReDoS - My Lucky Day - Moldova Behind the Scenes VS Live Performance - Eurovision 2018
I thought it might be a nice day to (re)share this bit of #Eurovision magic from the 2018 Contest.
3rd in the Semi, 10th in the Grand Final, ๐ฒ๐ฉMoldova's DoReDoS show you don't need to spend a fortune to put together a fantastic performance. #esc

I can't believe it's been less than a week since Eurovision. In some ways it feels like a month. And a lifetime until the 2026 season starts. #Eurovision #ESC

I 100% agree with this idea.
Make it free and app-only, with users required to rank a Top 10. If it's too much of a financial hit I'd be happy to see more sponsorship. Given the size of the global audience, I'm sure there'd be corporate take-up.

I agree their vocals were the best part. Maybe it's the circles I move in, but this is the first criticism I've heard about the theme - most of that was directed at ๐ฒ๐น, ๐ฆ๐บ and ๐ซ๐ฎ. I concede that the song's composition was polarising. I personally liked it. But clearly I'm in the minority!

Adwaith - Miliwn
I'm starting the campaign for a Welsh act to represent the UK at #Eurovision in Austria next year. Adwaith would be great.

I think the problem for the UK is with staging and/or vocals, rather than song quality.
Remember Monday were excellent. Staging let them down. Switzerland's LEDs were fantastic, yet they were barely used. And the props were pathetic. A song like needed staging like Luxembourg's, not James Newman.

But failing that, I think the UK should send one of two things to #Eurovision '26 in Austria.
Either a mega-ballad song by a diva, or a folky song sung in Welsh. Or perhaps a mega-ballad in Welsh - tap into a national language other than English. But make sure they can SING.

Like I say every year, I'd LOVE to see the UK do a Melfest-type competition: One night each, hosted by BBC England, BBC Wales, BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland, with the winner of each going to a Grand UK final.

I think there are a number of reasons for the UK's poor public vote, but I think staging and song are a huge part of this. The staging this year was mid at best. For a unique song that 'felt British' and was well sung, it was a missed opportunity. #Eurovision

On the UK's result at #Eurovision 2025.
First, it's a decent result: 10th in the juries, 12 points from Italy (one of the many shocks of the night), and Top 20 overall. Yes, the 'nut points' from the public feels a bit obscene, but Switzerland landed a big goose egg too.

The Swiss tanking the phone vote concerns me.
In the current system it means that the quiet, well performed song can only be the preserve of the big 5/host (eg France) because no semi finalist is going to risk a technically good song on a phone vote
Juries need to come back to semis

8 things I would do to fix #Eurovision.
(8) Tighten up the rules and make it very clear what qualifies as political, and what qualifies as โbringing the competition into disreputeโ. The ambiguity is damaging the contest.

8 things I would do to fix #Eurovision.
(7) Bring back juries to the semi-finals. Currently, some songs juries might favour are eliminated in the semis. This means jury votes are concentrated in fewer songs, which leads to the voting disparity we've seen in the past 3 contests.

(6) Keep the jury vote as it is (12 points to 1 point, and at 50%), but increased the number of expert jurors to 10.

8 things I would do to fix #Eurovision.
(5) The other 25% of the public vote should come from a demoscopic (i.e. representative) sample vote from the public. This has been used for both Benidormfest and Sanremo.

(4) With the increase of points from the public, reduce their percentage of the overall vote share to 25%. This retains a general public vote, but better protects the contest from votes based on geopolitical bias.

(3) Increase the number of countries awarded points by the public, from top 10 to top 20. This removes the cliff edge that happens for songs that finish just under the top 10, whilst retaining the risk (and fun) of the dreaded nul points.

8 things I would do to fix #Eurovision.
(1) Ban the use of advertising to promote a song. This (currently) does not violate EBU rules, but it certainly goes against the spirit of fair competition and level playing fields.

Analysing the voting results from the past week, there are a number of things (8 to be specific), which I think the EBU must do if we want to ensure the integrity of the #Eurovision Song Contest.

My thoughts on #Eurovision 2025:
The wide spread of votes across the juries and the public vote demonstrates the general quality of the entire competition. I think this is healthy, and what we want to see โ it makes for a more interesting and exciting show.
