In the longest state of the union on record, Trump didn't talk about abortion even once.
It underscores a growing rift between the admin and a coalition Trump has counted on in the past. Some anti-abortion groups are growing impatient w/ what they see as minimal action

"Their deaths, linked to immigrant men, became flash points in Republicans’ push for hard-line immigration policies. Led by Donald Trump, the party is using these deaths to call for policies like mass arrests, detention camps and militarized deportations"
From 2 years ago, feels apt tonight, too!
Reminder that Trump said he's make IVF free for all Americans — and Trump RX, which he touted tonight, is the only real policy initiative he's advanced.
Prescription drugs are a major IVF expense, but they are nowhere near hte main source of costs for fertility patients

Even if ICE is leaving Minnesota, the consequences — including delayed abortions, missed cancer visits, fewer people getting birth control — will be felt for a long time

NEW: GOP senators met behind closed doors with the head of the FDA, and emerged big mad about a lack of progress on the agency's promised review of the abortion drug mifepristone. Hawley called it a "dead end" and wants Congress to step in and roll back access. www.politico.com/live-updates...

We wrote last fall about how the sensitive location policy is endangering pregnant immigrants.
Doctors told us many are having worse outcomes — including preterm labor — bc they can't safely get prenatal care. One was more than 20 weeks pregnant when she finally got care for a molar pregnancy.
Health and legal orgs want Congress to protect "sensitive locations" — e.g. churches, medical clinics, child care facilities — from ICE raids as part of a DHS deal.
Trump rescinded the sensitive location protection. It's why many — including pregnant immigrants — are skipping basic medical care.
some of us though this game was great even in the first half!!!

Citing fear of ICE, pregnant immigrants in Minnesota are
-skipping prenatal care
-requesting home births, even when not medically advised
-going w/o adequate food
Many are experiencing complications providers say can be stress-onset: diabetes, high blood pressure, and even water breaking early
Six providers in the Twin Cities area said no-show rates have increased for prenatal visits, which are essential in detecting, treating and preventing complications such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and even stillbirth. @shefali.bsky.social for @19thnews.org.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

MINNEAPOLIS — Democratic members of the Minnesota Congressional delegation issued the following joint statement in response to the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old man, a U.S. citizen, by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis: “Federal agents including ICE and Border Patrol who are roaming Minnesota’s streets must leave our state immediately. The presence of masked, militarized federal agents is not making our communities safer — it is making them less safe. It is leading to increased danger and violence. “We call on Republicans to speak up for the safety of all Minnesotans. Silence is complicity. “Minnesotans have every right to be angry, but we must continue to show the world our North Star — our values of respect and dignity for everyone in our community — through peaceful protest.”

Journalists in Minneapolis are working nonstop to inform us about the horrific violence being inflicted in upon their city, their state and our country — all while living through it in their communities. @mprnews.org has been invaluable.

Stories like this one are also part of reporting on reproductive health policy, and I really appreciate The 19th’s coverage of how a supposedly pronatalist administration is disrupting essential pregnancy care and separating families
