Ya know! That would make an awesome IPTV or Kodi. SSD would be about as small as you can find (128gb?), since Linux will take less than 8gb of space.

Depends on the memory. According to what I found in DDG, it comes with 4GB, i5. That's a bit light but not unusable. If you can upgrade the memory to 8 or 16, the world is open to you. A SSD would help that a lot. Otherwise Sparky or MX Linux runs great on smaller machines.
Good luck!
You will probably be happier going back to Mac, but for the Dell - I'll join the chorus, put Linux on it. I am using a 5 year old Thinkpad that smokes anything windows. It has Debian, but I would suggest Linux Mint for someone "trying it out". Best of luck!

Time Change Weekend, check your clocks. I got bored and did a little 2 mile sprint on the bike. After all the work, it is running great. Strange having a different gear ratio but going fast is fun.

It is "One Of Those Things". if you embrace the long haul, you can do just about anything. I have gotten into training discussions at the weirdest places, like the vet, without really realizing it. I tell folks, don't worry about me until you hear "He's Sedentary".
07.03.2026 17:01 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Great turn of phrase. I got started back in the analog era of getting myself in shape. One step at a time. Now I'm a doddering ol' fool who counts workouts in terms of marathons.

One part at a time. Replace or repaired the brakes, bearings, derailleur, seat. Got a chain, and when I get through all that the crank bearing needs inspection and upgrade.
Ok, Musical drums are cool. Not something I could do. I can imagine there is a flow to the timing like everything!
Hey buddy! Yes, things are good. I'm rebuilding the bike this weekend. Too many worn out parts after 8100 miles. How are things there?

So while I am working on the bike, basically doing a "Frame Off" restoration to the thing, I have the music playing. Same thing I do while I am riding the bike, since it makes life better.

Will do. Full bottle of Tito's. I'll put it in the freezer and get the OJ ready! :)

Miami is about 25 miles south, and the orange pestilence is in Palm Beach about the same distance North. My preparations are a lawn chair and a full bottle of Vodka. I'll wave to you as dust.

With DIY #cycling repair, you have to teach yourself as you go along. There will be a lot of missteps. I am learning #bicycle repair on my second sport. So of course I am being cynical and barking at the sport gods as I stubbornly go through the process.

The yelp review of the place says that it is about the same menu as it is up there in the True North, so I'll get all these suggestions together and forward them. Thanks!
I'm with you about bitter coffee, if it is, it is either the wrong beans or roasted too dark for them.
#canada friends and followers, I have a question about Tim Horton's. There is one in Florida and I have a friend going to that side of the state. He'll stop in and get me some things there. I'm a home coffee roaster so I want some beans, and he's coming back with Timbits. Suggestions? Thanks!

Where is our camo? This patch would look good on an OD jacket.

It can be funny where the mind wanders. At 4AM, opening the eyes, you never know where you may go. In the Absurdist Venn Diagram of that moment, you would have the intersection of Laugh-In, Chickens, and Sleep.

I guess it's time for a dry run of Hurricane Season here. Fill up the gas tank, get Flour, Beans, Rice, Bottled Water. Prices will only go up.
Not a bad suggestion anywhere in the world.
My comment at the 5AM news looking at the pool and the dog walking around the yard... "Please someone put the adults in charge"

With the uncertainty in the world, remember to be careful and care for yourself. Oh and don't get taken in by con men.

I have seen older Raspberry Pi running Kodi doing most of what you are describing.
I have wanted to put a PiHole on my network here but for now, blocking ads is working well with a /etc/hosts file that I copy to a machine when new.
It depends on what you are doing with them. I keep way too many tabs and browsers open, and am doing video editing and transcoding on this old i7.

27.02.2026 01:15 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Mint is what they suggest for most dipping their toes into the water and it is a competent/complete distro. Look for a "Live" version which runs off of a USB and will install onto the machine. It would save you from having to buy a separate machine until you have seen if you like.
27.02.2026 01:09 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Stay away from the celeron chips. Debian or Linux Mint purrs on i7 or i5 chips. The N100 et al are really slow for just about anything. From experience, Debian installs in under 1/2 hour to an encrypted desktop via USB stick.
