The charts here have inspired me! I need to make a checklist of 'cool birds and other critters to see in NYC' for an upcoming visit. Please tell me your favourite NYC birds and critters, and how I can improve my odds of witnessing them. #nyc #wildlife #birding #datavis

Do we really know how many planets are in our solar system? | Datawrapper Blog In this Weekly Chart, we rethink what we know about our planetary neighbors.

Thanks to @datawrapper.de, who's Weekly Chart I really enjoyed, I rabbit-holed and found "Chroma.js Color Palette Helper". This helped solve a problem that's been in the back of my head all week! Got myself a lovely cat gradient now.

The old fella watching The A Team is absolutely killing the chill, snoozy vibes in this ICU. Come on pal, my mum needs a rest.

What is international migration and how do we estimate it? - Office for National Statistics Estimating our population is complex. Find out what our migration statistics cover and how our methods are adapting to world events and changing trends

Really proud of my colleagues for this explainer on how we measure long-term international migration. It's such a complex thing to discuss, I think they nailed it :) Some nice #datavis too, of course. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...

#30dayMapChallenge because I failed to tag it properly first time :D

This map genuinely helped my partner and I choose a hotel, it's a silly example of using your own data, even if it's silly data, to make decisions.

A map of New York City, centred on Manhattan. A heatmap overlay shows the greatest density of 'desirable' attractions is around central park. Building symbols appear at the locations of a shortlist of hotels. One hotel is in the middle of the densest part of the heatmap.

My initial map for #30DayMapChallenge Day 4 'My data' was one where I was sussing out which hotel to book in New York City. It was my first attempt at making 'my own thing' in QGIS. I scored a lot of attractions by how strongly I want to visit them, and then overlayed a shortlist of hotel locations.

I don't think ONS Geography are on this platform, so I'll quote their Twit and share something I made :)
"#30DayMapChallenge Day 4: our take on the 'My Data' theme. This map shows the density of public green space in each Greater Manchester (the map maker's home!) local authority in 2020..." ..

I think it gives an indication of the distribution in the measured data? It was a fun aside at the end of the week, anyway!

This chart looks at microplastics in seafloor sediments. I chose the blue/green from a photo of the North Sea, and the red & yellow from items on that boat that might, one day, become microplastics. I then wanted to make them look more like bubbles, but D3 is brutal and it's Friday 🥱 #datavis

I enjoyed making charts for 'Marine and coastal margins natural capital'. But! I wanted to noodle with colours in my own time, away from brand guidelines...

I wanted to highlight in particular this new waterfall chart (left) which illustrates the breakdown of how inflation changed from the previous month, replacing the bar chart (right) from previous publications.

#datavis people! Please can you share any waterfall charts you have enjoyed, or otherwise? Here's one of mine, where I was looking at how different components contributed to the month's change in CPI (Consumer Price Index). It seems to be a 'love it or hate it' chart! #dataviz

I’m kinda pleased I chose triangle shapes for untimed events, I remember wanting the frequency to be clear. Not the most successful, but hey, it’s a start.

Sorting out my office and just found my first ever undergrad custom data visualisations! Who knew it would become my career all these years later?! These were the dark times of Matlab, prior to learning R 😅 I think this is also my first ever chart sketch. I knew NOTHING. #datavis #catbehaviour

Public opinions and social trends, Great Britain - Office for National Statistics Social insights on daily life and events, including experiences of the cost of living, as well as attitudes to important issues from the Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (OPN).

There's always lots of interesting stuff in the Public Opinion and Social Trends survey releases. I'm very proud to be able to visualise some of their data each month. www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...

I wanted to see what that would look like as 100 little people. I usually work in Javascript, but quickly bashed this together in Powerpoint 'just to see'. It's a very sad piece of data.

A chart with 100 adult icons, with an infant next to each. 20 of the icons are coloured Red, to represent the 20% of households who reported running out of food in the two weeks leading up to the survey. The chart text reads 'In the past two weeks, 20% of households with one adult and at least one dependent child, ran out of food'. The source is the ONS Public Opinions and Social Trends report (March 2025).

Last week, I was pleased to produce charts for an ONS release. I didn't get visualise this one piece of data, though: 20% of single-adult households with at least one child ran out of food in the previous two weeks. Contrasting with 2% for two+ adult households with at least one child. #datavis

Highly, highly recommend catching one of the remaining Sea Power shows on this tour. I had no idea they’d be able to capture the atmosphere of those soundtracks live, but they smashed it. Do we use hashtags here? Is that a thing? #discoelysium
