There’s both a large tariff (I believe it’s 100%) and some set of import restrictions that i don’t claim to understand. Between those two, it’s not possible to buy a Chinese EV in the USA.

I drove a BYD for the first time last fall and this is absolutely true.

I am a manly man so I need a massive pick up truck with extra big panels bolted onto it to make it look extra stupid

If Chinese EVs were allowed to be sold on U.S. markets, Americans would save a ton of money - and oil companies and U.S. car companies would get wrecked.

I am sure this is totally obvious but to any of you I am not at all in the least bit saying it’s good. It’s just simply the case that this horror will lead to most nations moving faster off oil and gas for national security/economic reasons

08.03.2026 22:52 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

(And also in the short term the oil & gas companies will make so much money, which a sane system would tax back with a windfall profits tax)

08.03.2026 22:50 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

War in Iran, perhaps even more than Russia’s attack on Ukraine, will accelerate the shift off oil and gas.

For a deranged and broken person like Graham, it’s all in the game. NUTS

Even in absurdly self-interested terms, the USA becoming a psychotic killer and killing a lot of people isn’t in the USA’s interests!

In fact, people like Lindsey Graham face a non-zero chance THEY will be killed as a result of their actions. It’s like Hitler and the 3rd reich.

Indian Point closed. It will remain closed, no matter what pro nuclear people wish. Even if jt was economically and environmentally valuable to build a new plant there, you’d have to somehow defeat widespread Westchester and cross-river opposition. Not even Hochul, in the bag for nukes, suggests it.

When Teachout and Nixon ran we won big stuff as a result. That’s what would have happened with Delgado just by being a threat.

Instead they forced him to drop out. Now, there’s zero progressive leverage on Hochul and she can be the β€œmoderate” Republican she wants to be. /end rant

08.03.2026 14:02 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Apologists for all this will say Delgado wasn’t running a good campaign or he was a β€œlong shot” or that he was a moderate congressman.

A real candidate who was raising the money needed - which is the biggest hurdle - and who was running to the left wasn’t enough for them. Argh. 🀦

08.03.2026 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. We had an opportunity for a better future with a serious candidate running to Hochul’s left in the primary. But Mamdani endorsed Hochul super early and then Wfp refused to endorse him. And dsa acted aloof. All that killed Delgado’s campaign, and he dropped out. Now this is what we get.

Great for the EU!

Also: This *could be* New York, but Hochul’s in bed with oil & gas interests.

Hochul stifles clean energy => higher energy bills & more pollution.

Now she wants to gut the state’s climate law.

NY: Call your state legislators! Urge them not to roll back the climate law.

Ah, the ol' "actually, they bombed themselves" routine that Israel used whenever they bombed hospitals in Gaza.

We are in a climate crisis, and our utility bills are too high! On 3/5 in Manhattan, @nypirg.bsky.social and our coalition partners gathered for a #GasFreeNYC rally! We rallied for an end to dirty, expensive oil and gas boilers and in support of energy-efficient, money-saving heat pumps. 🌍

There must be a monster battle rn behind closed doors in Albany as the corporate powers - ride share companies, insurance companies, trucking firms - try to take away car accident victims’ right to sue.

And of course Hochul’s for the bigger $$$ side, running countless ads

These Ds β€œevolve” under pressure. For example a Kathy Hochul was outright opposed to New York for All, the NY bill to restrict police work with ice. Now she’s pushing her own version, under pressure. Still opposes the actual bill… and if she’d just support it, it’d have been been done years ago.
