NYCC Stop Hochul's CLCPA Attack Memo Don’t Let Hochul Hurt our Communities by Raising Our Energy Bills, Destroying Jobs and Increasing Pollution Reject Governor Hochul’s Trump Math Attack on New York’s Climate Law Governor Ho...

πŸ‘€ NYCC’s memo opposing Hochul's attack on the NYS climate law. Her Trump math is trash and she's raised our energy bills by ignoring the climate law for years now.

The legislature should reject her Republican talk points and her bums rush in the budget πŸ‘€

The latest Newsday story on the offshore wind projects is a NEGATIVE hit, even.

When I was a youngun organizer/campaigner, generally speaking the media were pro public interest action. Now they’re generally pretty terrible.

The offshore wind projects are particularly dramatic: even tho Trump’s done lots of illegal stuff to try and stop them, these two huge offshore wind projects are under construction right now! It’s quite a story!

CHPE is also amazing and connects in the spring!

In an alternative world, the experts driving the nyrenews crowd, which at that time was influential, would have crafted a law that required specific action backed by penalties and provided money. Or at least one or the other.

I was entirely new to the policy arena on climate/energy when the groups were constructing the clcpa approach. I was worried it was heavy on process and not requirements but didn’t make that case loudly.

02.03.2026 13:28 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Msm coverage has turned so hard against climate action that they now generally don’t even write or air stories about amazing new projects being built even as they’re being built!

It’s major progress, and the vast majority of people even those heavy β€œnews” consumers have no clue it’s happening.

On a side note: I cannot believe we’ve been forced to defend the extremely mediocre NY CLCPA. The CLCPA wasted years in process BS and analysis, which Hochul completely disregarded and is now ignoring even tho it was her people who did it. But finally groups sued and a court is ordering her to act.

Hochul’s push to gut the climate law comes even tho big new clean energy projects are being built now.

They’re late, and Hochul’s sucked it, but its happening:

βœ… CHPE (hydro power) connects in the spring
βœ… Sunrise and Empire wind (big offshore) connect this year and next
βœ… new solar projects

NY lawmakers push back on Hochul's plan to delay climate mandates New York's 2030 climate mandates are at the center of a growing budget standoff between Gov. Hochul and legislative Democrats, who disagree sharply over energy costs, carbon accounting, and the future...

I hope Mamdani gets much more than some child care money and the gov’s commit for some money for the city. That doesn’t strike me as a particularly impressive take in return for the big boost he’s handed her. And on issues that Mamdani didn’t run on (many of which matter a lot!), we’re hurting now.

01.03.2026 22:50 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The difference would be we’d have a much better chance at winning stuff from the left, such as tax the rich. She’d be less likely to win a rollback of the climate, as one of many examples of important issues. We’re in a very serious defensive battle even tho Mamdani won. There’s no check on her bs.

01.03.2026 22:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ah, I see. Well, groups and movements won major stuff when Teachout and Nixon ran. Delgado was running from the left and raised solid $$$. He was starting to get a little momentum. If Mamdani hadn’t endorsed early and wfp had, Hochul would currently feel pressure from her left. Now, she doesn’t. …

If only we had pivoted to sunlight power / renewables decades ago, there'd be none of this mess.

Strait

If the straights of Hormuz are closed either by Iran or military action or just insurers not willing to cover, and therefore no tankers crossing… well, giant economies depend on this oil. It’ll be a disaster. Yet another reason for nations to go rapidly to renewables!

01.03.2026 17:39 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

Thanks for replying and I’m sorry I’m not trying to be contentious - tho I think I disagree with you here. A follow up to understand this totally: what do you mean by saying Delgado was not going to change how we ran his campaign?

01.03.2026 16:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Could you clarify what you mean by this?

01.03.2026 15:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Stupid jerks and war mongers were chest thumping after the USA killed Qaddafi and Hussein, leading to 1-2 million dead in Iraq and disaster and a return of slavery in Libya. I’m sure they are now, too.

The USA should stop interfering in other countries affairs!

Hochul also substantially weakened CP in her roll out (and also cap and invest before halting it).

She’s awful

01.03.2026 14:11 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Don’t get me started on how that could have happened. WE tried. Other groups strangled any such attempt before it got rolling.

01.03.2026 14:10 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Halting cap and invest the day before it was to start with a regulatory roll out is the identical thing…

Except the climate/energy groups never ran a serious campaign for it and also we didn’t seriously fight back when she halted it. Unlike CP and transit groups.

01.03.2026 14:09 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I saved this screenshot of Emily Gallagher talking about why she endorsed Delgado bc it’s such a perfect summary of exactly how Hochul acted in 2022 too.

She is a bad governor. We deserve better. And now she has no real reason to constrain her most centrist Republican urges.

01.03.2026 13:52 β€” πŸ‘ 23    πŸ” 6    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And it’s so obviously stupid, too: gas prices are high and driving up bills, not solar ffs, which is the cheapest form of energy. Gah!

01.03.2026 13:55 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

πŸŽ―πŸ’― also: And much of the msm unquestioningly lapping it up as if it’s true!

β€œAffordability” being weaponized for the interests of rich people and corporate polluters.

01.03.2026 13:54 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A big problem with Mamdani’s extremely early endorsement of Hochul is the legislature does not have leverage in the budget: the governor holds the cards. Nonetheless, we need them to stand up and refuse to do all sorts of bad things she wants. My chief concern is the climate law.

01.03.2026 13:50 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Hochul now can do the thing she wants to do: be a Republican. With no worry that she will lose votes as a result in a primary. It’s very bad!

We have to get the legislature to stand up to her in the budget.

01.03.2026 13:48 β€” πŸ‘ 14    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A knock on effect of Mamdani endorsing Hochul early and WFP failing to endorse Delgado, leading him to drop out, is we’re now in far more danger of Hochul gutting NY’s climate law. It’s not β€œjust” lost leverage on tax the rich and funding for Mamdani priorities. Many things. πŸ˜”
