If you can’t see how tracking and testing dictates what and how teachers teach, I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve had many teachers I know complain about how these things interfere with the didactic process.

Do you have a source for those graphs? Even if they’re legit those aren’t the only metrics by which we should judge educational outcomes. They also dont address my initial point, which wasn’t about basic reading, writing, and arithmetic. It was about giving kids a well rounded liberal arts education

“Tracking” is a huge part of why contemporary education doesn’t produce kids who love to learn.

And we’ve seen a steady decline in educational outcomes since it’s inception. I’m not an “abolish the dept of ed” guy. I think it has a role to play. But whatever it’s doing now isn’t working for the benefit of our kids. There are obviously other policies that have made matters worse along the way.

Yes. But! When the parents are working multiple jobs just to make rent and put food on the table they can’t play as active a roll in their children’s education as they should. There are structural economic issues to address as well if we want to improve our education system.
