It might not be what you mean, but characters being imperfect and their morality are not necessarily connected. Characters can lack competence, make mistakes, and suffer through a narrative without making any moral decisions. Morally gray characters may stay static without development.

Hmmm I think this might be the saddest interpretation. If one is confident in the strength of the narrative and the handling of the themes in a piece of media, isn't the best thing to recommend to someone to let them expand their world views? ๐Ÿฅฒ

Everyone, read some adult books haha.

Such is the problem with the Internet. Haha. I can't connect to the younger generations.

...the sad reality of the world. Embrace difficult media, build your empathy, try to understand morally difficult decisions, and try to make life better for others, in what small way you can. ๐Ÿ˜”

To call "Y tu mamรก tambiรฉn" an "anti-romance" would be strange. To say normal people should avoid The Color Purple because of its heavy themes would be bizarre. It's not a normal way to engage with media. You're an adult. You can choose what you can feel comfortable watching, but you have to face

My point--separately from that thread--is that it is an odd way to exalt media to simply say it HAS mature themes and that this sets it apparent from other adult media. Especially so to say other adults should avoid it for such themes. It feels immature and like there isn't any thought to the

To this last point, people do engage with Western characters that aren't perfect--because really it is hard to write anything for adults that truly shows moral perfection--in ways that are romantic, even if that isn't the plot of the media. That's how fans are, right? Strange strange.

Believing that "normal people" can't separate fiction from reality plays into my thought of self-infantilisation. You are an adult, and so are others. It should be the norm for adults to confront mature media because the media stems from the problems of reality.

17.11.2025 15:04 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They're things that adults need to think about. (I may have a philosophical difference in my understanding of "morally gray" too.๐Ÿ˜†)

Although people may not be directly dating characters in most Western media, I don't think the divide between cheering for the protagonist should really be so stark.

17.11.2025 15:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It could be a separation of generation, but I think I find this all maybe... to be self-infantilisation? It's a strange use of language to call things that are true adult issues that must be faced in life (war, drugs, assaults, mental health issues, etc) as "problematic" in regards to media.

American films and shows are some of the most commonly consumed, and they often have very mature themes. Many normal people watch them. I feel like there's really nothing I haven't seen haha.

I was continuing to talk to my friend about this, but it is so odd how otome games with mature themes are marketed, maybe "fan marketed". "Problematic themes", "not for normal people"... Maybe it is because I am so old, but these things are not shocking to me. Not only in otome, but western media...

First thing I saw in the story line was "you" biting his chest. ๐Ÿ˜† I'm not ready for that right now.

Ah, every year, I've have Love and Producer couplets. It is sad not to get them this year, but at least I can see their cute photos.

Mother has appeared! How nice. I forgot to play any games today.

Hmm I only heard people saying it sounded bad, like AI. I wonder if they removed it? That would be sad, if those were real CV, but it is hard to know. I suppose, we will see how it goes!

Hmm! Yes, I wonder. Maybe it is easy and they are able to include renting the pre-released voice lines as part of the licensing deal. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” I have not played Moonlit Oath, but I heard it does have English dubbing? Maybe it is cheap because that game is less well-known internationally.

Right right. The rating is higher than Tears of Themis, so it makes sense their more free. In general, Japanese console games seem to have covered everything with some of their rotten men. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ If you include Japanese doujin games, then nothing is safe.... hahah!

That makes sense. It seems like there has been more push to get SEA releases, which is very nice!

My sister said the people at her salon started calling her "auntie" now, and she feels strange. Yes, we are all so old. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Personally, I don't think Light and Night has anything that people who haven't played console otome have seen before..? I'm always a little surprised how people speak like it has unlocked truly the most shocking things. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… Maybe compared to Chinese games only?

17.11.2025 09:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes, I see that there's a trademark in Vietnam that was applied for in June. Since they don't have trademarks in other countries though, I'm not sure if they will be SEA only like "Moonlit Oath" or truly global? ๐Ÿค”

I think otome players are so used to playing very old games. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… I would also question the translation and adaptation, especially as more people turn to AI for translation. Out of curiosity, I looked to see if you can find US trademarks, and it doesn't seem to exist for "Light and Night."
