#OTD, March 3, 1969 - Apollo 9.
The Lunar Module 'Spider' is sitting in the SLA atop the mighty Saturn V's third stage, about to get its wings in Earth orbit...
...Less than 5 months later, Lunar Module 'Eagle' landed on the Moon.

BREAKING: Artemis III will not be a lunar landing mission. It will be brought forward to a target of 2027 and be repurposed as an Earth orbit rendezvous test with lunar lander(s) - a bit like Apollo 9.
Artemis IV would be one of potentially two landing missions in mid-late 2028.

‼️BIG BAD BREAKING‼️:
Looks like March may now be OFF for the launch of Artemis II due to interruption in helium flow in the SLS interim cryogenic propulsion stage.

Wheels on the Moon
December 11, 1972 - Apollo 17
Here's a full-res crop of a photo remastered from the original film showing perhaps the clearest view of the make-up of the LRV's wheels in their operating environment.
Electric cars in 1972. And it folds. And it's not on Earth.

Our last mission to the Moon - Apollo 17, December 1972.
Jack Schmitt photographs Gene Cernan on the Lunar Rover.
Perhaps the photograph I agonised over the most, but ultimately didn't include in the book. The quantity and quality of the imagery from Apollo 17 is incredible.

55 years ago TODAY:
Apollo 14 touched down in the Fra Mauro Highlands on the Moon.
Alan Shepard (pictured) had become the first American in space 10 years earlier.
Check out the linear pattern in the regolith, on the right, caused by the LM's descent engine exhaust.

With Artemis II just weeks away, this years anniversary of the Apollo 1 fire - today in 1967 - and Kennedy's sentiment from his Rice University speech 5 years earlier, feels especially poignant.
As well as featuring Ed White on the cover, the book and exhibition close with a tribute to the crew.
