#OTD in 1972. Apollo 17, EVA-1.
Gene Cernan checks his cuff checklist, "Take locator photo to LM (Lunar Module)."
The LM is 150m away (centre). Jack Schmitt is left, the rover is right.
This 7 shot stitched panorama is also in @sciencemuseum.org.uk, London - except it's 6m tall and 20m wide!

60 years ago today -
Jim Lovell and Frank Borman were in orbit on Gemini VII, waiting for their visitors, who were still on Earth - the crew of Gemini VI-A.
3 days later, the crews would perform the world's first rendezvous in space.

Cover of Apollo Remastered
Hooray, my copy of Apollo Remastered by Andy Saunders finally arrived! I think it's the most beautiful spaceflight book I have ever seen.
I'm really surprised at how many of the photographs are new to me.

The great David Hockney's reaction as an Apollo Remastered panorama of Shorty crater was revealed on this huge scale was priceless!

#OTD 1969, Apollo 12's crew visited Surveyor III (landed in '67).
R: Surveyor crater today - incredible image taken by ISRO (Indian Space Research Org) in 2022. The LM can be seen at 11 o'clock, Surveyor at 4 o'clock.
Check out Bean and Conrad's tracks up to it, then out and around back to the LM:

In assessing other mission imagery, I think ISRO not only captured the shadow of the flag (seen in many other orbital images / sites) but the flag itself! This may be because Apollo 12's flag crossbar didn't work, causing it to droop, increasing its visible area from above:

I've only tweaked the above image but Block crater (1 o'clock) is so clear. Here's a photo taken by Bean from Block crater - Surveyor is in the distance. And we can follow those tracks on the traverse map!
