Match 13. I hope the game is better than the weather. #SaintsFC need to start showing something. Anything. Looks like Armstrong will play through the middle, not his strongest position but hopefully in combination with Azaz and Scienza we can cause some problems. Great to see Flynn fit to start. ⚽

Somewhat chaotic Sprint Race but at least it wasn’t boring. George Russell Max Verstappen’d Max Verstappen, Lance Stroll Pastor Maldonado’d Esteban Ocon, and we now know what the “repercussions” are for Lando. Fun times. 🏎️

Match 10. Having lived in Swansea for 4 years they have a soft spot in my heart but #SaintsFC really need to win today. We’re walking a bit of a tightrope now between mounting a challenge and watching the season fizzle out before we’ve even got started. Long way to go, but need some results. ⚽

Match 7. Really no reason to panic this early in the season but #SaintsFC need to try and find something today. It’s not really working so far and it’s hard to know if the team selection is rewarding performance or clutching at straws. Will certainly be interesting to see in a tough fixture. ⚽

Another miserable day for #SaintsFC. Only 6 games in, we’re already on the back foot. It’s hard to see where the improvement will come from. We still lack a proper forward and we’re still seeing the same costly errors at the back. Feels like we’re in for another long season if we don’t click soon. ⚽

A schedule of five upcoming football matches for the Southampton team. The dates are Saturday, September 20; Tuesday, September 23; Saturday, September 27; Tuesday, September 30; and Saturday, October 4. The opponents are Hull, Liverpool (EFL Cup), Middlesbrough, Sheff Utd, and Derby. The match times are all either 15:00 or 19:45/20:00.

A tricky and exhausting run of fixtures for #SaintsFC ahead of the next break. It’s been a slow start so we need to pick up the pace quickly, going to be a challenge with such limited training time. This week at Staplewood massively important for the period to follow. ⚽

Match 5 and the noisy rivals are in town. Very quiet outside with a heavy police presence. Hard to know who will manage the occasion best today, but as ever a win of “that lot” would be massive for the club and the city. Need some steel today. ⚽

Took a trip to The Mayflower last night to watch Mary Poppins with Wife Number 1. Absolutely incredible show. Performances, music, dancing all top notch. Astounding stagecraft and set design. Right up there with the very best shows I’ve seen to date. Thoroughly recommended. 🎭

Match 3 and Stoke are in town. Cautiously optimistic that we can take something today but still feel we’re wobbly at the back and blunt at the front. However, there’s more resilience in the #SaintsFC team this year so anything could happen. ⚽

It’s nice to hear Will Still explaining that he’s just looking for the best way to get the best team on the pitch, not wedded to specific tactics. #SaintsFC have suffered from tactical inflexibility for a while and it’s good to hear some pragmatism. ⚽

And so it begins. No idea what to expect of this season but my mind is holding optimism and pessimism in a delicate tension. Will be a tough game today and definitely potential for a slip up. Come on #SaintsFC ⚽

Had some time to kill in London this afternoon so catching up with the #SaintsFC ladies in their first pre-season game. Lots of changes over the summer but Saints doing well today against lower league opposition.

The Chapel stand casts a strong shadow across the St Mary’s pitch which is otherwise bathed in sunlight.

And just like that football is back. Pre-season games are notoriously meaningless, but the sun’s shining and #SaintsFC are back. Hard to know how to feel about the season ahead. Can we somehow turn largely the same squad as last season into a team that can challenge? ⚽

Back on the annual Purbeck camping trip and spent a few hours in Corfe. This place never gets dull, beautiful part of the country with an incredible history.

This Lionesses team doesn’t seem to know when they’re beaten. Feel for Italy, but England just keep grinding out results. I suspect we’ll be up against Spain and it’ll need another step in performance to win that one. ⚽

Horner sacked by Red Bull? I did not see that coming today… 🏍️

The British GP so rarely disappoints. Between the crowd, the track and the weather there’s always something interesting. Aside from some early safety car laps today was another cracker. Shame Lewis couldn’t quite make the podium but otherwise a decent result too. 🏎️

This F1 season is shaping up to be a classic. Top 6 with 4 teams qualifying within 0.3s and most of those covered by 0.15s, and it’s like this most races right now. The grid is so tight. Delighted to see Lewis starting to get to grips with that Ferrari. Should be a great race tomorrow. 🏎️
