The novel BREATH WARMTH & DREAM is flanked by cool figurines and an empty bottle of rum, a bookcase stuffed with wonderful titles behind them all.
You can learn about the Three Rules of Witches (& the unspoken 4th: never fail to protect innocents in harm's way) in this fantasy paperback. Called "a modern classic" by a very generous reader, it's now $12 at Amazod, an additional reduction from just yesterday. 'parently Bezos needs cash.

I view ebooks as a great chance to take a relatively inexpensive chance on a new to me author to see if I like their work. And I wish more other readers felt that way. Itβs the difference between thousands of dollars in royalties and $100 or less in a given year.

I do, too.
@djangowexler.bsky.social shared a screenshot of an AI redo scene of the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. The lighting was off, the focus was off, etc.
A basic natural photo holds the potential to stimulate memory, nostalgia, and therefore a greater chance of generating an emotion.

Now, I will argue that intent matters.
Star Wars redone CGI didn't enhance the movie. Often, it made it worse.
Lord of the Rings CGI was beautiful. So was Avatar's. The difference is that was the director's vision and the CGI was their tool. In no case, is AI the vision. At best it's a short cut.

It's funny how all these restorations stink.
This AI restoration of Wizard of Oz is bad.
Lucas' CGI redo of Star Wars is bad.
The attempt to colorize I Love Lucy was awful.
Real voices that occassionally go sharp or strain for breath are better than autotuned ones.

PB has helped do so much good. This is awful, stupid. shortsighted, unnecessary, and harmful.
How does this make life better for anyone? Economically, it hurts more than helps.

My biggest reaction by far was in the movie Fatal Attraction. When Glenn Close springs up with that knife I screamed so purely that a beat afterwards the entire theater erupted in a scream of fright.
My second biggest reaction was upon seeing Cervantes die in Man of La Mancha, I started to bawl.

I'm such a softie that part of me tried to convince myself that there's nothing wrong with a six-legged dragon. I mean, why not, but it just doesn't look intentional. It just looks bad.

It probably would be difficult to do, but wouldn't it be awesome to have a line of "fan art" coloring books.
Copyright and trademark issues would probably make it undoable, but still.
