Sneak peek of an inset of the results figures from our diffusion basis spectrum imaging data.
I am enjoying a few uninterrupted hours of plotting today. Finally got my hands on our diffusion basis spectrum imaging data, and it looks good, particularly in white matter voxels. I hope we will have a preprint coming out in a few weeks, led by @lhkal.bsky.social & @akuehnel.bsky.social

fMRI connectivity is dominated by recurring high-amplitude BOLD events (CAPs, QPPs)
But what originates these events? Many think neuromodulation is the culprit. Our new work offers a simpler take: cortico-cortical dynamics alone can generate CAP-like events! doi.org/10.1371/journal.pcbi.1013995

I’m currently redesigning my Body–Brain–Emotion seminar for our General Psychology MSc students. Last year, we covered the spectrum from basic sensory processes to perception (e.g., cardiac effects), as well as breathing and sleep, gut-brain interaction.

As body-augmenting technologies become more common, it is important to understand how the brain decides what counts as "the body", and how that changes over time.

Another fun story about the current grant situation. I applied for a modest sum in response to a call from a foundation. Apparently, they received more than 1000 applications, and they award only a few per call, so the funding rate is lower than 1%.

That's true, and I am sorry to hear that. I wish there was a more streamlined process for resubmissions because this would also save scarce resources, especially if the initial review round only asks for minor revisions.

Yeah, still under review, so at least the second is still missing. This is the first time it has taken so long for one of my grants, but I heard similar stories from others. I am just waiting for the reviewer to complain that it lacks the most recent references 🫠.

I can't believe it's already been 12 months since I submitted my beautiful grant, and the reviews are still not in. Is this the slow science everyone is talking about?

Dark blue hexagon, with a light blue frame. Features a brain facing the left, with the front half as a wire-frame mesh of light blue, and the back half with several polygon segments of different colours. Below is written "ggseg" in light blue.
The ggseg ecosystem finally has a proper home! 🧠
For those who don't know, ggseg is an R package ecosystem for visualizing brain atlas data. Think ggplot2, but for brains.
