Agreed. Phillies fan with Orioles/Mariners sympathies here. Obviously huge Griffey kid like the rest of the generation, and it feels very pure to root for them, Dodgers notwithstanding. I would’ve “struggled” had the Phils made it and Philadelphia once again is the sports world’s villain.

There’s gotta be something beyond the obvious Millennial draw of the 90s/early 00s Mariners and the Griffey effect. What is it with this team that makes them America’s Second Team? Just perennial noble underachievement? Cool unis? City’s music history?

It’s funny that they’re playing “Even Flow” as the Mariners lead at the break, a song sung by noted Chicago Cubs fan Eddie Vedder.
