Once Aspirational Success Stories, New ‘Avatar’ and ‘Zootopia’ Sequels Will Now Primarily Serve as Year-End Bailouts for Disney
The $1 billion 'Lilo & Stitch' has somewhat obscured a slew of box office bombs from Disney's previously reliable (Pixar) and bankable (Marvel) brands (remakes).
The $1 billion ‘Lilo & Stitch’ has somewhat obscured a slew of box office bombs from Disney’s previously reliable (Pixar) and bankable (Marvel) brands. A last-minute surge from ‘Zootopia 2’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ would further allow Disney to distract from otherwise troubling commercial whiffs.

'Fantastic Four' Gets Clobbered, Plummets A (Comparatively) Galactus-Sized 66% at the Weekend Box Office

Disney bought Fox and stripped it for parts so that a better-reviewed, MCU-affiliated #FANTASTICFOUR reboot could have post-debut legs about as bad as FANT4STIC, eventual global grosses on par with the first two ANT-MAN films and “tickets sold” earnings essentially tied with the 2005 FANTASTIC FOUR?

I mean, viewership on Disney+ doesn’t translate to cash-in-hand revenue. So... not since COCO, I'd argue (offhand).

The Naked Gun is an unmitigated laugh riot. It offers 80 minutes of unending sight gags, bemusing slapstick, and clever wordplay, with perhaps 3% of it predicated on anything specific to the “IP.” Oh, and “Comic Superstar: Danny Huston” almost steals the movie. It’s lots of fun.

The “controversy” over the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle jeans ad(s) feels like a macro-sized case of Twitter brain, whereby “I like broccoli.” is followed by “What, how dare you say you hate carrots?!”

It earned me so much traffic/money in the mid-2010s, since the algorithm A) prefers negative headlines and B) doesn’t detect sarcasm, but now it’s merely a good running joke for my own entertainment.

Julie Bowen Thought She'd Be Replaced by a Younger Actress in 'Happy Gilmore 2'
According to the actress, Adam Sandler had to tell her to stop underestimating her value
Regarding the #HappyGillmore2 promotional tour, you don’t get to argue that a legacy sequel deserves brownie points for not swapping out the now older love interest for a younger/“hotter” love interest when the film kills off that romantic co-star in the first five minutes.

Gerrymandering, union degradation, wage disparity and having the highest marginal tax rate fall from 91% to 37% in 60 years has allowed a billionaire class to gain outsized influence over — if not to essentially purchase — all three branches of government.

Why 'Michael' is Gonna Be Startin' Summer 2026 A Week Early

Lionsgate and Universal steal a page from the MCU playbook (re concurrent global openings in late April for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and AVENGERS: ENDGAME) to get #Michael its “first biggie of summer” designation without opening on a date already occupied by THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 and ANIMAL FRIENDS.

this reminds me of the period in american politics when pundits would demand that any black politician of note — really, any black person in politics with a national audience — “condemn farrakhan”

Sneaky bit of "1st biggie of summer" maneuvering. Most of the 2010s MCU summer kick-off off pics opened a week early overseas, and the AVENGERS finales dropped globally in late April. Now, DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 becomes the second weekend of summer counterprogramming. Well played, Lionsgate..

Box Office: 6 Hot Takes for a (Somewhat) Super $135M Weekend
Superman topped $400 million globally as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle opened with $40 million in Japan, but both Smurfs and I Know What You Did Last Summer debuted to relative indifference.
#Superman topped $400 million global (and dipped just 53% domestically) while #DemonSlayerInfinityCastle has already earned $44 million in four days in Japan. However, as frankly expected, #Smurfs and #IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer both debuted to relative indifference.

'Superman's Box Office and Buzz Gives 'Supergirl' an Advantage Almost Never Afforded to Female-Centric Superhero Movies
Unlike ‘The Marvels,’ ‘Elektra,’ and the first ‘Supergirl,’ Milly Alcock’s sci-fi actioner will follow a critically and commercially successful male-skewing superhero movie.
Unlike most female-skewing superhero films (like ‘Elektra,’ ‘The Marvels’ and the first #Supergirl movie), next summer’s Milly Alcock-starring sci-fi actioner will *not* have to follow a poorly-received or commercially unsuccessful male-skewing superhero flick.
