this is literally fraud. You did not sign authors with the promise to pay their due if you made a profit, you committed to pay them for their work that they delivered and has sold. At the very least this publisher needs to be blacklisted, but hope there are also legal consequences somehow

Ernest Hemingway once wrote: "The hardest lesson l've had to learn as an adult is the relentless need to keep going, no matter how shattered I feel inside."
Hang in there guys. You are all seen and heard and cared about. Stay strong.

want to be excruciatingly clear about this: TikTok didn't have to go dark last night and it didn't have to turn back on this morning.

both of those were voluntary moves that the law does not directly touch.

*Loved* this.

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen was fantastic. The world-building was simple but fluid, the slow-burn romance was well done, and the ending, while anticipated, wrought several "well shit" comments from me.

Looking forward to book 2!

Posting these out of order, but this book gutted me at the end!

Hills of Shivers and Shadows by @pamgodwinauthor.bsky.social was a dark read, but so well done. I have never rooted so hard for cannibalism than I did for the "father" in this book.

Loved it, can't wait for book 2!

Loved Spark of the Everflame by @authorpenncole.bsky.social

Loved the fantasy/world-building, loved the romance, loved the heartbreaking moments and intrigue and breadcrumbs we got for what's to come.

Looking forward to the second book!

She did it again. Ripped my heart out and put it all back together again in the last pages.

Absolutely beautiful. My favorite one yet.

Thank you @laurathalassa.bsky.social for writing such damn good books for me to devour.

Now onto Death.

Been getting some subtle (and not so subtle) shame from a coworker about "all the smut" I've read this year.
So I counted.
Of the 259 books I've read so far (working on 260 right now) 89 of them were romance, including an 18-book manga series with zero smut.
So ... 34%? Oh no ... the horror.

I think it speaks volumes that right wingers criticize bluesky for being β€œliberal” and β€œleft wing”, when it’s really just that hate speech isn’t allowed.

You're not "late to the party" when you enjoy an old book for the first time. Books don't have an RSVP deadline. The party started long ago, and guests show up when they're meant to.

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!

There's definitely a lot more to her character than that, but we definitely all love and hate different things in characters based on our experiences.
I don't think that Beth sees herself as less of a woman because of what he did, but rather that he stole that part of her future forever.

He did know. He knew before they did the abortion. That's the issue. He knew and he didn't tell her. Because if they went anywhere else, people would know that the daughter of John Dutton got pregnant and had an abortion. They told him she would be sterilized, as it's their policy.

Jamie is only one of the reasons she is the way she is. Her mother ruined her before him.
But as someone who experienced the loss of a child via a miscarriage (nothing close to her trauma), you never get over it. He could have told her and chose not to. She'll never get that back.
