Halifax city government is decidedly not real. Not only does the province not let Halifax set its own speed limits, a bill last year gave them power over transportation, and a bill they’re trying to pass now would give the province more power over land use, and decision-making power over sprawl

There's a difference between feeling unsafe and uncomfortable.

MLAs are not unsafe in Province House. Closing down the second floor to the public is a cowardly move. They did it because some of the MLAs feel uncomfortable with the cuts, and won't admit it.

I see parallels between magical thinking about taxes (β€œwe should only tax the rich”) and magical thinking about housing (β€œwe should only build affordable housing”)

Tony Mancini’s β€œwe don’t make fleet beg for fuel, so we shouldn’t make the libraries beg for their collections” line has been stuck in my head.

Buying less single-use fuel was in no way shape or form up for discussion in all those austerity talks.

With the province cutting grants to organizations that support adults with disabilities, many of these organizations are looking at cuts to programming for those who need it.

The province says the funding will now go to the individuals instead of organizations.

Local news outlet: Young people aren't buying cars, and it's not for the reason you think.
Me: Is it because they can't afford them?

Trish will use the phrase β€œunprecedented times” as she tries to justify something that doubles down on fossil fuels for sure.

Denmark responded to 1973 oil crisis by reducing car-dependency. Let's do that now. - Streetsblog Chicago "The government had to introduce car-free Sundays. And then people realized that the car-free Sunday was the best day of the week."

FYI the 1970s oil crisis was the impetus for Copenhagen turning into a cycling city

The decision to keep pushing fossil fuels, cars & road expansion instead of transit & active travel isn't just bad climate policy, it's looking increasingly disastrous to the economy. There should be cameras nearby. The A&W just opened two months ago and should have functional cameras.

Thanks for this. I didn't see this posted. The police followed up today and are currently investigating and getting camera footage. When the police followed up they informed us someone else called it in. At that time the car left so once my daughter gathered herself she made her way home. She didn't know someone called it in.

It’s still up on the Spryfield group. This is what the pedestrian’s mother replied

If you have any kind of disability and take the bus (even if just a few times a year!) please fill this out Halifax folks :)

Apparently the same collision. The driver left the scene and the pedestrian who was hit didn’t call the police, they eventually just left as well, but someone else reported it. The cops & the pedestrian have apparently connected now

When I get a time machine, I'm going back in time to the 1970s and making gas in the US at least twice a expensive, permanently.

Europeans come to Canada and remark how much cheaper gas is here. Then Canadians go the U.S. and say the same thing about their prices.
