I liked the story, I liked the characters, I'm torn on the gameplay, and there enemy bases and escalating difficulty made me love the game way less.

I'm not a game designer, but I like to talk about game design. I've ran more than 50 different systems, so I guess I know a thing or two about how they work from the GM standpoint. But I got really aggressive when all I got from fellow GMs was "but i have fun and also rule 0 and also ur buzzkill"

Honestly, this way of thinking is what made me start cutting ties with the TTRPG communities in general. I'm talking about inconsistent game design, the rules that won't support the theme, and constant homeruling (not talking about any particular system now) -- but all I get is "idc i have fun"

Yes, we had a chromed up troll samurai, aztech elf mage, and human decker and rigger, and from the player's point of view everything past the character creation was breezy. The whole load was on the GM, as it is with GURPS, but he was fine with that.
