We sent an FOI request to the Supreme Court asking several questions, including communications relating to the selection of Lord Hodge on the panel for the FWS case. We also asked if any conflicts of interest were considered. 1/

The idea that the judiciary is apolitical based on the fact that they don't speak on political matters is one of the fig leaves of the British establishment. It allows them to historically and contemporaneously make political judgements while those behind them can be protected from some of it.

1/🧵 Well, Hodge is the vice president of the court, so he can walk in and take his seat on any panel he likes. In the judiciary, seniority rules. And it was Robert Buckland, the then tory justice minister, who handed him the power to tip the scales.

The outcome was predictable given the EHRC submission and that @profstephenwhittle.bsky.social and Victoria McCloud couldn't submit testimonies. By not lobbying Labour ahead of time, we essentially let the court write gender recognition policy for them.

The Council of Europe has warned that the UK gov’s treatment of trans people may breach human rights law.

This must be a wake up call.

We’ve seen an increase in hostility towards trans in recent years.

Everyone deserves dignity, safety, & respect - that includes trans people.

To those who advocate violence and perpetrating criminal damage, I am reminded of the words of Millicent Fawcett. “I can never feel that setting fire to houses and churches and litter boxes and destroying valuable pictures really helps to convince people that women ought to be enfranchised.”

I urge the Commission to reconsider its approach in the interests of legal clarity, practical workability, and the fundamental rights and dignity of all those affected.

I have serious concerns about the EHRC consultation.

Last year, in a meeting of the KLPA, members voted to reject a motion that “only those born female in sex can use the pond”. The motion, which would have excluded transgender women, was “resoundingly defeated”.

Buried away in the Daily Rowling's story about Sex Matters' plans to try and force its bigotry onto Hampstead Ladies' Pond: it's not what users want.

Arrogance beyond belief from the EHRC & its legal advisors

Extraordinarily response from the EHRC to our letter asking whether they were using AI to process consultation responses: "It is not for your client to question the manner in which that process is
being conducted while the process is ongoing."

Obviously we won't let it drop.

Paragraph 22. The Defendant published the Interim Update in response to what its Commissioners described as misinformation. However, it remains unclear what specific misinformation was being addressed, or from which side of the debate it originated, as the Defendant has refused to fulfil its duty of candour at the pre-action stage. A helpful point of context is that Lord Sumption, a former Justice of the Supreme Court, observed that the judgment does not require separate or single-sex services or facilities to exclude trans people. Following Lord Sumption’s remarks, many public and private sector employers and service-providers stepped back from making drastic changes to the provision of services and facilities for trans people. In a public talk at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Akua Reindorf KC derisively referred to this insight as “Sumption law” (a play on the term “Stonewall law” often used by those behind the gender critical campaign). Reindorf also stated that there will be a “period of correction” regarding trans people’s legal rights, saying they “have been misled for many years”. It appears the misinformation the Defendant purports to counter was Lord Sumption’s remarks.

Let’s call it what it is — UVA President Jim Ryan’s forced resignation is an attack on all of our public higher education institutions.

The Department of the Interior thought they could rewrite history by asking folks to report “negative” park narratives via QR codes… but instead, people used those codes to flood the system with support for our National Parks, and some hilariously blunt messages.

I feel the time is approaching therefore for the UK to be red-flagged as a State engaging in steps tending towards Cultural Genocide for the purposes of the definitions used by these well respected early warning systems.
