Look I get that you feel some allegiance to Trump. But you have to acknowledge that we’re in a pretty awkward position now. I do not want Iran to have nuclear weapon. But we have not destroyed their program and we do not have any inspectors anymore. I suspect the war will heat up again soon.

This was just a deal. You stop working in a nuke and lets us inspect you and we give you back your money. That’s how deals work. Now they are going to go all out and we’ve already taken our shot. We’re in a much worse position now.

That literally makes no sense. Iran is an oil producer with GDP of over $400 billion a year. The money Obama released (which was their money, not ours) was less than 1/2 a percent of their GDP. There is no world in which that money was the difference maker. Math.

James Carville is the smartest man in Democratic politics. The man speaks truth and he’s not on anyone’s payroll. And winning in ‘92 after the Reagan revolution was astounding. OK y’all…fire away.

The damage he has done is vast. I hope he is not allowed to paper over all this with a few PR wins.

Trump will declare victory. Markets will rebound (as they have to any shred of good news to date) and MAGA will seize on this to make it appear that there was always a grand plan (“Trump was right!”)

3. China will make a meaningless symbolic deal (I’m thinking “landmark actions to stop Fentanyl chemicals”) but give nothing real. But they will be happy to give Trump his PR as long as they win the real negotiation.

2. Same deal in EU. Actual current average tariff rate into the EU is about 1% so going to zero is easy. He will push them to relax non-tariff barriers on our antibiotic laden beef and e-coli ridden chicken and they will tell him to pound sand. He will again take the PR win.

They can give Trump the PR he wants without actually changing very much.

1. Trump makes deals with key Asia allies - Japan, S. Korea and Vietnam. These are easy PR wins because the current tariff average rates in Japan (> 3%) and Korea (> 1%) are already very low and Vietnam has already indicated they will go to zero because they import very little from the US.

I’ve got a pretty good hunch how the tariff stuff plays out from here. I hope Dems are ready and make sure Trump doesn’t weasel out of accountability for the chaos he has caused. Here’s what I think happens from here:
