This was Ike as President (his first major speech, in fact), but just gonna say: Eisenhower not beating the allegations of being the United States' greatest general on this one.

Fitting that we got one verifiable Military Genius and he was the Divine Spirit of Logistics and Diplomacy guy.

people can just be (imo) wrong sometimes and that’s okay with me. I like lots of people I think are wrong about lots of things; important things, even. from time to time I’m wrong too

he he, I didn't guess correctly because I forgot that person exists, but boy I should have.

Started watching Plur1bus and am loving it. I'm totally vibing with Carol. I'm about six episodes in and I feel like things are about to change but honestly I would watch many seasons of Carol just being Carol by herself.

I don't think they are lying about their sentiment either. Rather, they really do seem to think that having a the sentiment on their couch absolves them. I think this a mirror of the left view that the important thing is to have pure opinions and that one need not concern yourself with outcomes.

A lot of people see politics as private matters of the heart. People have said to me "I don't support the way ICE is operating", but they vote only for Republicans, have not contacted their representatives to complain, nor have they expressed this opinion anywhere outside closed doors.

Fragile (Super Deluxe) by Yes on Apple Music Album Β· 1971 Β· 46 Songs

Really been on a classic Yes kick lately and the Apple Music Super Delux Fragile album can play half a day away. It's great stuff.

I can't get enough of South Side of the Sky.

The thing is, it seems that many people don’t see these contradictions as a problem, they just see it as an opportunity to choose whichever side works for them.

I think both proponents and detractors of AI are not realizing how sensitive AI results are right now to the model(s) AND the user AND the pattern of use

In these modes it will often work for a couple of minutes in a kind if self dialogue and it’s a qualitative jump up in quality from the one shot models.

01.03.2026 21:28 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is one of the main things you get with paid models are modes that generate their answer to your question and then, behind the scenes, generate questions trying to pick apart that answer and raise a gauntlet of validations. And then more iterations of looking things up, etc.

On one level we are ourselves in the same position. How do I know if I’m remembering that equation/case law right? Increasingly the AIs in β€œthinking” mode are dealing with this the same way by cross checking their work with references. Or checking their work from different angles, same as I do.

Many kinds of work are expensive to generate but cheap to verify so it doesn’t matter if it’s always accurate because it’s automating the generate part not the verify part.

What the heck is going on with these springbok?
(other than "hidden trampoline concealed in the grass")

The stiff-legged jumping behavior shown here is called "pronking" or "stotting" & it's a bit of a puzzle why they do it.

It's observed in a wide variety of ungulates under different conditions.

Its not pointless at all; MAGAs goal is to replace science with the church.

State sponsored assassinations are back on the menu might be one consequence. I guess they have a lot of faith in the secret service.

the *average* voter doesn't know shit about either one of these things. Knowing these things exist at all puts one in the above average category of voters.

you want to here an unpopular take? the iranian regime sucks. the venezuelan regime sucks. THE TRUMP REGIME SUCKS. as liberals we need to dig out heads out of the paper bag and remember what our principles really are

There’s another scenario where it works, where the angry Iranian people and elements of their military turn on a crippled leadership and take the country back and we have to see an illegal war by a evil madman come to a positive end. It will take every rationalist bone I have to endure that.

There’s a scenario where he sends soldiers to die in a pointless campaign, it costs him another ten points in the polls and ends his presidency, and the pointless mission turns out to save America after all.

I could use an explainer on this. I’m aware of the exit episode and it seemed people were concerned about AI going super intelligent and extincting us, but I’m kind of fuzzy on what the practical ethical upshot is for the folks who left. Superficially they are just another AI company now.

that top DOD officials spent the entire day feuding with a tech company and the boy scouts before launching a war in the middle of the night should probably inform your opinion about how well planned and executed this will be

what a crazy night for sam altman to be like "yeah we got that dept of war deal, and there's no moral concerns here"

I haven’t been a believer in decades and I never was a premillennialist, but Trump working on all the predictions about the antichrist like it’s a checklist is the closest I’ve come to reconsidering in a while.

Claude is genuinely good, yes.

Today I had Claude and Gemini cone up with bug suggestions to feed to codex/chatGPT. The more AIs the better. They all had different useful things to add.
