Beyond this, I also think the American fetish with free speech as a concept (I can say whatever I want, it’s just words) is deluded. Words are actions. And if you dehumanize other people with words, you are doing it in fact. You should expect a response (a consequence).

It really speaks to the dimming of the American intellect that we went from understanding that freedom of speech means freedom from state consequences for speech to believing it means the state should protect you from non-state consequences for your speech.
