all good, everyone misinterprets something sometimes :3

i was talking about using PC CRTs for higher resolution computer games, not standard definition console games. PC CRTs are best used at 1024x768 at 75 Hz or higher resolutions imo

this is because they are able to use much higher refresh rates (most 17” PC CRTs can do 120Hz at 640x480) and thus need to have very short persistence phosphors compared to CRT TVs.

that’s all the information i can think of that’s really relevant for now, lmk if you have any more questions :3

also if you find a PC CRT monitor for a good price and working condition then definitely get it! they’re not just good for old computers - modern PC and console games look great on them too (you may need a VGA adapter, but those are cheap). ideally run PC CRTs at 75Hz or above to eliminate flicker.

most other brands (Panasonic, for example) are perfectly fine for old consoles and are more likely to be available for cheaper prices. also the age of the CRT has an effect on the price - generally late 90s/early 00s CRTs are cheaper secondhand than 70s/80s/early 90s and late 00s/10s CRTs

Sony Trinitrons are also overhyped a bit but if you can get one for a decent price then go for it. just know that the Wega line of Trinitrons often suffer from extremely bad geometry issues and sometimes the deflection yoke can be sagging, which requires you to open up the CRT and reposition it

pretty much any brand is fine. for consoles I’d just make sure to get a consumer CRT TV rather than a professional grade monitor (PVMs are way overhyped and they’re not good for 240p content IMO - the scanline gaps are too big to look good)

i love blasting my mouth with extremely high speed electrons

but then ill have to clean it and its really annoying to do so because tiny fibres from the cloth statically attract to the screen

I’m 18 years old and own 13 CRTs, 4 of which are TVs. One of them (a 20” Panasonic from the 90s that weighs about 30 kg) I move fairly frequently to plug in next to my bed so I can use it for static at night. Then in the morning I move it a couple metres so it doesn’t block my desk chair.
