Not in every regard, no. She hadn't been trapped in a loveless marriage, for one. She had no doubt that one had been suggested at some point, but someone had had the good sense to stop the suggestion from being made to her face, or maybe they just hadn't been able to catch up to her yet. Like her mother, the other half of her soul had been ripped away - her twin in her case, her mother's wife in hers. Very different loves, obviously, but the most important loves of each of their lives. But even beyond that sad similarity, there was... for all she had been born and raised without Amethar Rocks in her life, it turned out that like Jet, Saccharina had taken much more after their father. Not in terms of their abilities, of course, but.. Both of them were born leaders, getting people to follow them off the strength of their personality alone. Jet would have grown to be the same, Ruby knew, had always been the one of them worth following. Ruby had never wanted to be that, and found as she grew older she wanted it less and less, and so instead she was doing the quiet things to make certain that her half-sister could keep doing the loud ones and could keep that throne and Ruby would never have to even think about occupying it. The difference, she really hoped, would be that she would not miss a Calroy the way her mother had in her grief.

The arrow parts were easy to obtain, but trying to make them come together into something workable is an evil little process. She messes up the binding cord twice - wrapping it too loose the first time, then getting strands of her hair painfully trapped in the flax thread on the second. “Lapin,” she whines, “I don’t have to redo it all just because it got a bit of my braid in it!
