Anagram map for the Sydney Rail Network. 2025's Lysine Yard Network Map!
A little over 13 years ago, I created an anagram map for Sydney's CityRail Network, as a labour of love for my then boyfriend (and now husband).
Sydney's transport infrastructure has evolved massively since that original anagram map, which is now just a bit outdated.
This conference will also launch the new Kakadu National Park research strategy. Putting Traditional Owner perspective first in co-management. How to "hand back" land that's always been Aboriginal land, regardless of conservation scheme. @iccb2025.bsky.social #ICCB25

Warnings:
- Seizure warning (plenty of strobe light effects)
- Un-simulated sex scenes
Per IMdB:
"A refugee arrives at the home of an upper-class family in London and seduces each member of the family. When he suddenly is gone, he leaves behind a void that the rest try to fill in different ways."
Movie poster for the film "The Visitor" (2024). Per Wikipedia: The Visitor is a 2024 British film directed by Bruce LaBruce. The film, starring burlesque actor Bishop Black in titular role, is a new interpretation of Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1968 allegorical film Teorema, depicted in explicit sex scenes.
Another weekend, another move. Next up:
The Visitor (2024)
Well... That was... something. We're glad we watched it, but this is a very strange film.
We appreciated this movie and the themes it explored. With that being said, exercise discretion when watching.

Last up on our movie weekend:
Popeye: The Slayer Man (2025)
A straightforward B-Horror movie, with some flat acting, sprinkled with humour and some basic-but-fun practical effects.
A little predictable but overall pretty competent and a decent watch.

Continuing on with our weekend of movies:
Hercules Returns (1993)
I'd heard so much about this movie, and it didn't disappoint. Classic Australian humour, with some frenetic energy and great laughs.

Per Wikipedia:
"Set in a Jewish summer camp, Gorp features the kind of physical, sexual, and scatological comedy prevalent in films of this genre, while playing for comedic effect on the class distinctions between the camp's management, the camp counselors, the waiters, and the kitchen staff. "
One thing you can say about this movie was it had insane energy - it seemed like the cast were told to just go nuts. We had to pause so many times to keep track of the insane shit that was going on in the background.
Despite everything, this movie got some laughs out of my husband and I.
This film was... not great. Some of the slapstick humour was fun, but the jokes about assault and rape were terrible, even for a film of its time.
It was very interesting, however, to see Fran Drescher in one of her early film roles. Other notable cast included Dennis Quaid and Rosanna Arquette.

Gorp (1980)
Tagline: "A bunch of fruits, nuts and flakes"
I won't spend much time on reviewing this. Take all the worst aspects of your 80's fraternity comedy movies, and let the actors loose.

Per ImDB:
"In the midst of a civil war in South East Asia, a general intensifies the climate of violence by kidnapping 63 UN delegates. To free the hostages, a colonel leads a group of fighters, who will have to use all their skills to be successful."
As I was writing this I was sad to find that actor Peter Tuiasosopo, who played Edmond Honda in this film, had only just recently passed away.

I will admit I was not super aware of the source material going in to the movie... I was more of a Mortal Kombat on the SNES kind of kid.
As an aside, watching fellow Aussie Kylie Minogue was pretty amusing, her accent definitely clashing with her fellow cast-mates.
Movie poster for the 1994 film "Street Fighter", an action film written and directed by Steven E. de Souza, and based on the video game series developed and published by Capcom. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, along with supporting performances by Byron Mann, Damian Chapa, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Wes Studi.
Another weekend, so another series of movies for my husband and I to enjoy.
First up, Street Fighter (1994).
A fun, campy and seemingly self-aware flurry of action, this was enjoyable but perhaps over-long, especially towards the end.

The Guardian has published their May list of Australian food in season.
Looking forward to some good citrus, avocados and Brussels sprouts. And though I never got around to it last month, maybe roast some chestnuts.

What I hate is, what's the harm in improving the environment and making the world a better place? Even if global warming were fake (to be clear, it's not fake), surely making the world a better place and polluting less is still the better move?
... oh right, capitalism and ideology...
Poor baby - hope it's ok.

Seeing some of the architectural and design choices of the late 70s was pretty wild. One part "oh my god, just no" and one part "hey, I remember that from my childhood".
Per IMdB:
"The mating rituals of two teenage surf chicks from the southern suburbs of Sydney."
In a weird way, watching this was nostalgic. While I certainly don't miss the prevalence of cigarettes in years gone by, the drama and intrigue inside and outside of school was on point, as was the tension of growing up and trying to find your identity and place in the world.
