Well, seeing as the Layton series never provides a year, maybe the Ace Attorney timeline takes priority, which would place the crossover in 2018, long after Star Wars. Kinda weird since Layton is inspired by the 1960s, but their world is already bizarre for a bunch of other reasons

Edgeworth says "I detest talk of supernatural drivel. I suppose now you'll say she has midi-chlorians?"

Star Wars exists in the Ace Attorney universe, and this case is canon to the crossover with Layton, who is quite knowledgeable about most topics, maybe including pop culture.

Basically what I'm saying is that there's a good chance there's a version of Layton that knows what a lightsaber is.
