text that says, We need you to speak up in support of bicycle infrastructure that makes Portland a great place to ride a bike.
PBOT is preparing work orders to spend its limited transportation budget on making our streets less safe. The diverters on NW 20th and Everett, NW 14th and Johnson, and NW 15th and Johnson are slated for removal as soon as this week. These diverters keep cars off of well-used bike routes and were part of the NW in Motion planning process that took several years.
Please email the city with this link and ask them to request an immediate pause on the removal of the diverters until PBOT can present their reasoning to the Bicycle Advisory Committee on August 12th and to the public. Slower speeds and fewer vehicles in these areas drastically reduce injury severity in crashes and facilitate quieter, cleaner streets. These diverters are in accordance with multiple city council-approved city plans.
This latest removal comes weeks after PBOT removed three street plazas in NW and turned them back into car streets.
We have heard a variety of inconsistent reasoning used to justify the removal of these filters Go here for BikePortland's coverage for more information.
We understand the need to make adjustments to infrastructure, but disagree with removing modal filters without knowing what the city is going to do to make these streets even safer for people riding bikes. If the city moves forward with this removal, it will set a dangerous precedent for Portland's entire bicycling network.
Our lawyer has contacted the city's attorney regarding how this action by the city relates to our Bike Bill lawsuit.
How can the city ask for more transportation funding if this is how it spends it?

Council offices contact list
It's not 100% clear who's made the decision to remove safety infrastructure - PBOT? Mayor? Council? City Administrators?
Lack of clarity is why people who depend on safe streets to get around PDX are extra worried about this newest car-oriented decision.

this is insane: Washington state is basically doing reverse congestion pricing, taxing sustainable/efficient forms of transportation to subsidize pointless highway widenings.

Rather than cynically crap on "The Dems" on social media, how about you "get out and push". Get involved with your local party and push them in a better direction. Help people running for the school board or city council. Talk with your elected officials and push them in the direction you want

An illustration showing the impact of parking requirements on land use. From left to right, the image depicts a gradient of increasing parking mandates: 'No Parking Required' allows for dense, walkable development; '1 Space per 500 Square Feet' introduces some parking; '1 Space per 250 Square Feet' adds more parking lots; and '1 Space per 100 Square Feet' results in sprawling, car-centric infrastructure with large parking lots dominating the landscape. The logo 'PRN' and 'PARKING REFORM NETWORK' are visible at the bottom.

What parking mandate reform was to zoning, single stair reform is to building codes.
A dumb policy with no basis in reality has shaped the lives of millions, and the reform is only on the table because a couple people initially regarded as cranks refused to stop talking about it.
