This has been bothering me. I’m sure that science show is brilliant, I bet my 9 yr old would love it. But best family theatre??? That’s like Derren Brown winning best lead actor. #Oliviers

Cumbersome yes probably! But the Arts are the only sector that are also expected to serve education delivery. I would love an arts rich education system so that arts orgs don’t have to fill the gaps - would lead to much more exciting work with schools.

Drama & the arts are not just β€˜extra curricular’ reaching only some kids.

β€œThe arts are a good illustration of some of the dilemmas for this Review, in that not all of the issues that have been identified relate to the curriculum or assessment framework. For example, in arts subjects we have heard calls for improvements in equipment…

Not read all 45 pages yet, but this curriculum review πŸ™„
So much promise of valuing creativity pre-election & it barely features in the interim report. Drama & creativity improve access to learning and without it being woven through statutory requirements for Primary it remains for the privileged…

Back at Sheffield Theatres this week, the place that made me. Playing on the wild carpet in the 80’s, radical youth theatre in the 90’s, a month long exchange in Japan, assistant directing, a huge outdoor promenade show & a couple of years on stage door with the best Yorkshire blokes. Home 🧑

HOME boss: Theatre has a duty to support the next generation of artists Theatre industry must look after ’supply chain’ of new artists to ensure that the creative ecology is "still here in 10 years’ time", Karen O’Neill has said

"If we’re going to keep surprising, exciting and challenging our audiences, we’re going to have to care for and develop our artists."
