Americans voted for cheaper groceries. Less than a week on the job and Trump's already managed to get us into a trade war that will drive up the cost of coffee and be a gut-punch to American farmers and manufacturers, all because Colombia hurt his feelings.

For gifts, I utilize local businesses like boutiques, surf shops (these are local to me). I buy people museum tickets or concert tickets or something experiential, a gift card to a local business or restaurant is always a good option

Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

For books + audiobooks, Libby desktop browser, Hoopla app. For physical books use Thriftbooks or bookshop.org

For home goods like kitchen dish soap (I use a bar), floss, toothpaste tablets, sponges, beeswax wraps, etc. @zerowastestore is my go-to! They’re a small biz and also work with other small business to offer their products to a wider audience. @thrivemarket.bsky.social also offers home essentials

Farmers markets, Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) from community gardens, non-barrier food pantries, and growing your own food (and sharing your abundance)

Martie foods is a great option for LOW cost brand name staples, they get all the stuff from grocery stores that doesn’t sell or fit their expiration window (like it’ll expire in a few months) and cut the prices super low. Also family owned grocery stores, specialty stores like Asian or Indian market

For food (but not just food): Thrive Market is a great option for pantry staples, supplements, and skincare (that’s what I get) it’s founder owned which I think is important. Membership is $60 for the year but they’re also a certified b corp and do good things in the world.

I *imperfectly* dont shop large corps and have opted for small businesses or founder-owned (not PE) businesses to support instead. Here’s where I shop for food, home goods, gifts, clothes, and more 🧵
