Film #24! Jump scare the movie? This didn't really work for me and I had to keep turning it off and watching other things because I was bored and sometimes annoyed. There were some nice elements, but overall I felt like I was watching a video game or a music video. #spookyfilmfest25

Film #23! This was such bonkers fun. The less I say about it the better, so if you haven't seen it and you like 80s schlock (Italian variety) I can't recommend it enough and it's best to go in blind. All I'll say is Marilyn Monroe saxophone. #spookyfilmfest25

Film #22! Another rewatch, kinda, as I was surprised to see that the last 20-30 minutes seemed completely new to me. Had I never seen this all the way through? Who knows! A triumph of weirdness, with Jeffrey Combs's intensity and of course Barbara Crampton in bondage gear. #spookyfilmfest25

Film #21! There's lots of care home horror these days. I was eager for some bonkers John Lithgow (hoping for Ricochet/Raising Cain level bonkers). This didn't quite get there but was still somewhat fun, but also a bit sad. Felt about ten minutes too long. Still, very creepy puppet. #spoopyfilmfest25

Film #20! Got to see this last night as part of @irishfilminstitute.bsky.social's Horrorthon. A dark fairy tale that's more "Pushing Daisies" than "Hannibal," with a fantastic child actor. I recommend avoiding the trailer. Mikkelson always fantastic, Weaver is weird fun. #spoopyfilmfest25.

Film #18! Emotionally devastating, but kind of in a good way? Starring the most expressive dog in the world, who is definitely a very good boy. Deeply scary at times,which may be due to the cute dog in the middle of it all. Recommended. #spoopyfilmfest25

In the middle is a taller apartment building. In the sky above the building the clouds have formed a vampire face with a wide smile and too many teeth, similar to the poster in the first movie. There are lots of smaller monster vampire faces in the clouds around the big face and to the side of the building. The title is at the top

Film #17! I love both Fright Night (1985) and its remake (2011) with a deep, abiding love that knows no bounds. I was sure I had seen this before and I was wrong. A sequel done right, building from the first but fun and weird in its own right, and with a stellar cast. #spoopyfilmfest25

Film #15! OMG. I very much enjoyed this. Going in, I only knew it was about a couple having bad times, and that the actors are married in real life. The film is more than the sum of those parts. A stunning exploration of commitment. #scaryfilmfest25

Film #12! Exhuma. Enjoyable horror on the surface, but even better with a deep dive into Korean history and tradition to understand some elements after watching. The poster for The Man in My Basement is split into two levels, like storeys in a house. Corey Hawkins is on a couch looking at the viewer on the top "storey" of the poster, the title is in the middle, as if it is in the floor, and Willem Dafoe is on the bottom "storey" of the poster like he is in the basement. Things are murky around Dafoe so you can't really see the setting. He's looking off to the viewer's right.

Film #11! I saw a lot of reviews that complained this film is trying to do too much, and I agree 100%. I would add that the ending felt jarringly abrupt & characters make some baffling choices. Fantastic performances all around, though, and Willem Dafoe is always worth watching. #spookyfilmfest25

Film #9! I didn't realize this was a short film until it ended and I wanted more. A character study of a girl dealing with the conflict between her faith and her identity. Fantastic lead actress. In Polish, so I got to practice my languishing comprehension skills. #Spookyfilmfest25

The poster for Final Destination 4,titled for some reason The Final Destination, shows a closeup mirror image of a woman screaming. The mirror is smashed, though, and behind missing pieces you can see a skull, particularly where her mouth should be. It looks dour and like no fun.

Film #5! I've been filling in the gaps of unwatched entries in this series, and this is the first to feel a bit like homework. You can really feel the absence of James Wong and Glen Morgan. Still sometimes fun though often unoriginal, and the title choice is baffling. #spookyfilmfest2025
