Some rando on the airport shuttle overheard my friends and I talking about microgrids to power AI datacenters in the desert and assured us it was impossible because it was too hot and you couldn’t generate enough power. I referred him to @duncamp.bsky.social

I don’t really see the reason to build them. Plenty of solar yet to build that’s more economic.

Pretty sure giant off-grid solar/battery/generator are going to become very come for large new loads, including data centers.

Everything I want to do is illegal:

- build giant industrial power networks without involving the monopoly utility

- install solar on my balcony without bending the knee to insane bureaucratic morass

- share my extra power with my neighbor across the fence line
