400,000 BC, at the invention of the world's first word. A neanderthal has fallen into a tar pit, and yells "FUCK", knowing nobody is around to help them, and their foolish mistake will forever be immortalized on TVTropes.
Suddenly, the tar pit begins to rise, pulling itself out from where it lies, it awakens. The person is dragged inward from the flow of the tar, as it begins to take on the shape of a creature.
The person finds themselves in the grasp of a protoguarian, a being made of tar. They raise their hand up to scratch its chin, and this first impression cements the friendship between this mysterious being and the humanoid, forever cascading into a mutual understanding between the two clades of being for the rest of time immortal.
The person paints the ceiling of their home, aided by their new friend who lifts them up effortlessly. There are paintings of them hunting together, as well as a few handprints from both the neanderthal and the guarian.
