My alternative view of the rapture is that if you deliberately degrade the environment to try to bring it about, God's going to say you're an asshole and leave you behind when the time comes.

For me it's also in the same mental category as drugs: something I do not want to touch with a ten-foot pole because I am way too much of a control freak, especially and in particular about anything to do with my own cognition. Stay the fuck out of my brain.

I one million times prefer it to be light at 7:30 and dark at 4:15, the way it is in Montreal on the solstice. And 100% of the studies that have been done show that I'm right in terms of health, safety, and basic functionality.

Maybe Saskatchewan is enough of an edge case, being kind of in between time zones, and/or has just moved everything earlier to compensate, that the effect isn't as pronounced. But there is zero scientific debate on this question.

No. It's. Not.

As I say a wearisome number of times whenever this exhausting debate comes up every year, the US tried permanent DST in 1974. It was such a catastrophe for human health & safety that the 2 year experiment was cancelled after less than 1. Switching is bad, but permanent DST is worse.

Saskatchewan is on permanent STANDARD time.

Human circadian rhythms are not an inconvenience to be "worked around", they are an unalterable aspect of our biology!

If there was a referendum that gave people the choice whether to eat cake laced with strychnine and 93% of them voted to eat the cake, 100% of the people who ate the cake would still die!!

I think about this Tony Benn speech much more than I used to

From the Greek oikumene.

Yep.

As is the thing it refers to, so oddly appropriate! 🤣

The Brits keep a lot of Greek and Latin diphthongs in places where Americans drop them. Anaesthesia, foetus, oecumenical, diarrhoea.

I am aware that Canada is further north than the US, yes. Which makes it even more ridiculous, because the winter days are even shorter and the summer days are even longer, which means that futzing around the edges doesn't change the basic fact of Lots of Light or Almost No Light.

People should really know better than to fight with me about daylight stupid time.

I like meat but I also like cheap yummy food, so I may well make it both ways!

(In the US, LOL, not 1974 x2, it's late, though not as late as it will be next week)

03.03.2026 04:42 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

It literally is not. If you'd read the reply to that post, it mentioned the 1974 attempt to switch to permanent DST in 1974, which was an unmitigated catastrophe.

Changing clocks is bad. Permanent DST is worse.

Omg yum, would love the recipe??

I read 200+ books a year and aggressively refuse to track my reading in any more detail than that 🤣

Spell it British style, diarrhoea

Right? And I just noticed apparently they're just calling it "Pacific Time" which I'm sure won't cause any confusion with PST and PDT??

03.03.2026 04:37 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

So instead of ending at 3 they'll start at 9:30 am. Which is (checks notes) much, much worse.

If 96% of people voted in a referendum that the moon was made of green cheese, they would still all be wrong. 🤷‍♀️

LOL

(particularly the ill-fated experiment in the US in 1974, which was supposed to last two years but was called off after less than one because everybody hated it so much).

Permanent DST is a disaster for human health and safety. This is not a question. It's been proved over and over again by both research and experience

And I'm not a Quebecer and have no love lost for this province, lol.
