Myot View Early Learning and Childcare Centre

This week in the Ladybird Room we have been further developing colour recognition of our primary colours. Blue spaghetti ,yellow shaving foam and red jelly. We have also had out some other activities relating to these colours such as chalk and paint sticks.

In the ladybird room we have been exploring colours in the messy area, using coloured pasta with our playdough and frogs in the water tray. We have been matching the colours that are the same and helping each other to identify the different colours using simple language.

Some of our children in the rainbow room have been enjoying looking at there reflections and identifying there facial features. Some are enjoying it to watch the adults draw them and are motivated to draw themselves too.

Today in the Rainbow Room the children were exploring texture through cutting and rolling the play dough

We have been curious to see and feel the play dough today after it being in the freezer. It felt “rough” and “cold”. We used different tools to try and cut it but it was hard. “I can’t do it”. We persevered as it got softer throughout the day.

Some of the children in the rainbow room have been exploring different hair types and colours as we had out the hair sample books expressing themselves and sharing their thoughts.

Some of the children wanted to try some sewing. We talked about how to keep ourselves safe and practiced basic stitches. The children were so excited, about making dresses for their dolls with the new skills they were learning. “I want pink purple sparkle” “I’m going to make a rainbow dress”

Some of our children in the rainbow room have been discussing about where they see animals, the farm or the zoo. Today they took part in a game where they had to group the animals that they would see in these places. Some of our children were helping and correcting others, sharing good knowledge

Our rainbow room has been busy this week with the messy stay and play sessions. Our children have been super excited to spend some time with parents and grandparents within the room.

We had lots of messy fun, exploring gloop. We learned what we needed to make it, chose some fun colours to mix it all together. The children enjoyed feeling the different textures, “gooey”, “sticky”, “yucky”. It was interesting to watch it melt in our hands and drip back into the tray

We have been exploring textures in the Rainbow Room. The children have been using there hands and brushes to explore with paint. Some children saying “it’s smooth” others saying “it’s shiny”. Running over the paper with their fingers “it’s rough”.
Good descriptive language.

Some of the children have been beginning to explore the woodwork room and the tools available today, being creative in using and investigating a range of resources whilst doing so. Amazing! 🔨👏🏻

The children in the Butterfly room had a visit to the local park this afternoon. They had lots of fun exploring the different apparatus. Some of the children climbed the pyramid seeing how high they could go whilst others worked together to make the rope swing go higher.

This week in the RainbowRoom we have been using our bug hunt checklists and magnifying glasses, to bug hunt in our garden. We have also looking at some of the bugs and insects, where they go, sleep or live. matching picture cards and using some good language around this.

Another lovely morning spent in the woods. We spoke about the rules we had to follow whilst there. We found a den to hide in and we sang some songs of the children’s choice. Simoa came along for the adventure too.

This week, in the Butterfly Room, some of the children were using the scarves and outdoor resources to have “a dance party” and “put on a show” whilst listening to music

In the Butterfly Room, we have been developing our independent skills, making choices and following routines at breakfast times. The children have been enjoying our healthy breakfast, making their own choices and using their self help skills at the dining table 😃

L and his mum have been looking after caterpillars at home and watched them grow in to beautiful butterflies. They were so kind to bring the butterflies in to nursery for all the children to watch them being released. Thank you L for sharing this experience with us.

The children in the Butterfly room have been so engaged within their outdoor environment today. Riding bikes, making potions and role playing with friends. Some of the children have been sharing their knowledge about how to stay safe. “We need helmets to ride on bikes” - H

Some of the Butterfly room children have been exploring the blocks working together to create different structures. F and I made a shop to sell their ice creams. O was very engaged posting the people into the blocks working together

Today, we went along for our first visit to the woods. We spoke about the rules we have to follow whilst we are there and explored our new surroundings. We had great fun making our very own pretend campfire🍂🌿🪵. Simoa came along for the adventure too and helped keep us safe

We really enjoyed trying out the new water butt today. We were independently sourcing our own water to use in our outdoor kitchen. We also liked watching it pour into the tuft tray and splash in the puddles it made.

Our rainbow room friends built a “bus” together in the block area. They were super excited singing ‘wheels on the bus’ whilst doing the actions. ☺️

We have been exploring mark making in play dough and in paint. We made pictures with the stampers “rainbow” “teddy” “ love heart”. The dinosaurs made “footsteps” “stomp stomp stomp”.

In the Rainbow Room we have been exploring our own foot prints using paint. We described what it felt like and also counted our toes. Some children explained that it was “sticky” and others explained that they “liked it”, referring to the feeling of the paint on their feet.
