Wage theft is a federal crime from January 1. A code shielding small business is yet to be released
Wage theft becomes a criminal offence from January 1, 2025, giving small businesses little time to learn how the code will protect them.
From Jan 1, 2025, intentional wage theft will be a federal crime in Australia, with penalties of up to $7.8m for companies and 10 years' jail for individuals. But a code covering small business has not yet been made public.
The code also needs to be declared for the new laws to come into effect.

One of mine:
“Oh the flame trees will blind the weary driver
And there's nothing else could set fire to this town
There's no change, there's no pace
Everything within its place
Just makes it harder to believe that she won't be around”

It’s crazy to me that I spent many Christmas retail seasons selling thousands and thousands of dollars worth of CDs and DVDs (one store I worked in would easily clear $100k a week), and now my daughter and her classmates are turning old CDs into artworks at school. At least she knows what a CD is 🤷🏻♀️

I’m back in the SmartCompany editor chair this week, so what better time to try this new website. And to share one of our most-read articles in recent weeks. People love #Yeti!
